Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

My current favorite brand of my favorite style. I like this beer...a little too much. I could go on and on about its balance and beauty and big fat smack of ecstacy but I’ll just say, "BUY IT!" If you can’t buy it. I’m truly sorry.

A cloudy amber with an off-white colored head. I’m not a fan of IPA but this one isn’t bad for an IPA. Thats still not saying much.

Bottle from Matt and served in a standard pint glass: Clean deep amber hue with frothy head and good lace. The aroma has notes of leafy and resiny hops, wintergreen and pine, caramel and butterscotch, grapefruit and apricot esters. The taste is a a tad sweet but very balance in the end with resiny piney citric hops to the rescue. The mild spice and leafy finish is quite nice. Yep, I get some wintergreen on the palate too, strange but neato! The mouth feel is smooth for the genre, not aggressive or biting but dry and metallic upon the finish. Honestly this is probably better cold but I ended up liking it.

Hazy amber with off white head. Aroma of citrus hops with a touch of grass. Hoppy start and finish but the malt base down th emiddle is a little lacking. Good but not great.

I had this one a long time ago during a party and didn’t take the time to rate it. Really, if it’s a good beer, I remember it and its defining characteristics.

Thanks to Terminus for picking this up for me. Pours amber / bronze with a creamy tan head. The aroma has caramel, butterscotch, cream diacetyl and light hops. Medium body with fairly soft carbonation. The taste starts with rich malt and caramel. The finish is all oxidation. The condition I had it in was probably not the best. I will gladly rerate when / if I get a fresh bottle.

A fairly standard ipa in many ways. Another solid deschutes beer. Small head, hops are perhaps slightly underprounced.
