jgd0608 (187), Zeeland, South Carolina, USA Jan 17, 2007 12 oz bottle courtesy of kenb. Thanks! Pours a dark, cloudy orange, with 2 fingers of bubbly, almost white head. Citrusy notes. Tastes of citrus as well, but this seems to have a little bigger of a mouthfeel than typical ipa’s, which i’m likin alot. Good malts with a solid hop backbone. Very nice IPA. a10555 (123), West Chester, Ohio, USA Jan 7, 2007 what a great beer! I love all of the deschutes beers, and this one did not diasappoint. Got it while I was visiting back home and wish that they sold this in Ohio. Flavor was what you’d expect from an I.P.A Hops, Hops and more Hops.
HopDuvel99 (39), Tennessee, USA Jan 7, 2007 Golden brown with a modest, offwhite head. Hoppy aroma. Wow, no balance here... Hops all the way. Opens with hops flavor, finishes with hops bitterness. Lingering bitter aftertaste. There is some underlying malty sweetness. Full bodied. Excellent. Top-notch American IPA. Hoppy but not too hoppy. elektrogeist (158), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jan 6, 2007 12oz bottle from lee’s liquor: Really heavy on the hops, almost enough to completely overpower the maltiness. An excellent brew, but some of the bitterness is a bit too coarse and trumps the malt. Probably in style guidelines for an IPA, but a bit more malt complexity would be nice. Plenty for hopheads though ;) Retorp (2154), Tampa, Florida, USA Jan 6, 2007 12 oz bottle from Liquid Solutions. The aroma holds citrus hops, some white fruit, crystalized sugar, some mild bread notes, caramel and a hint of peppery spices. Pretty nice aroma. The body is a bright orange/caramel and holds a diminishing thumb thick white head that leaves clingy lace.

Citrus hops fore is lightly sweet, bready, caramel accented and finishes with a nice hop bitterness. It’s fairly straight up, but that makes it nice and approachable, balanced. Either IPA is growing on me or I’ve gotten ahold of some well made ones of late. Miksu (2187), Jyväskylä, Finland Dec 29, 2006 Bottled. Orange-amber color with small head. Strong, fresh and flowery hop aroma with some sweetness and notes of orange. The same elements in the flavor with minerals and firm but not extreme bitterness. Very balanced and pleasant IPA. brstp (201), Princeton, New Jersey, USA Dec 28, 2006 Updated: Jan 9, 2007Bottle. Cloudy brown-yellow amber color, creamy off-white head with some nice lacing. Big floral hop aroma, some grass and orange. Start is tangy, surprisingly malty, moves into a complex caramel, spice, and hop bitterness that doesn’t really resolve. XCKC (13), Tigard, Oregon, USA Dec 27, 2006 Whew hops! Hops that leave a zing ringing until the next sip.
Poured from bottle a medium reddish copper color with slight haze from the dry hopping. 2 finger head faded quickly, the lacing was light but kept on through to the end of the pint.
This IPA is a spicy one, though a softness does come through in the finish to just barely bring it all togther for me. Towards the end of the pint, it tends to loosen up some, and Im able to pick up the zest of the citrus. Overrall a well done strong IPA here from Deschutes. Persoanlly, to me, it may be a little to over the top for everyday 6 pack enjoyment. Though, its a no wonder they wanted to make it available year round. For those that enjoy a real robust hoppy brew, this one may be for you.
