Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

(07.26.06) 12 oz brown bottle from Liquid Solutions. 6.8% ABV. Best by 9/12/06. Lot 082EG. Hoppy malty aroma. Poured hazy amber with medium white head. No discernable carbonation. Medium bodied ale that starts with light malt sweetness and mouth blasting citrus (grapefruit) hop flavors. Hop bitterness increases in intensity in the middle. Finished with lingering hop bitterness. Somewhat unbalanced with very little malt foundation to support giant hop presence. Tastes like concentrated hop tea. Hop heads take note.

Has a musty, leafy and grassy nop nose; even feels acidic on the nostrils while smelling this beer. Dry and musty yeast all over this beer, with the hop presence certainly there, but it doesn’t have any juiciness or sweetness, it’s just dry and caustic from the hops. Crisp up front on the lips, musty and starchy on the back of the tongue, full of metallic hops. Really not my kind of IPA.

Bottle: Slightly hazy, copper coloured, small foamy layer; impressive herbal to "medical" dry resinous hoppy nose with traces of sweet malt in the background; very strong dry bitter flavour, light to medium bodied, extremely well hidden alcohol; crisp, strong, dry herbal hoppy, a bit citrousy finish with a never ending bitter aftertaste. Oh, hoppy day ! Herzlichen Dank, Jonas - genau mein Geschmack...!

GABF-on tap- pours an offwhite head. Taste is light/medium citrus-grapefruit hops, upfront bang/bitter.

Cloudy orange-copper body with a small white head. My tasting sampler was too small to word a meaningful description. I can only say that its overall earthy profile, great balance and strong “rough” bitterness was just the type of IPA that does it to me. Must get bottles of that stuff. I sure had no aversion for this Inversion.

on nitro tap: aroma is subdued PNW hops. Usual notes of grapefruit, pine, citrus, other fruits, caramel, blah blah. However, the nitro thing completely killed this for me. It subdued the aroma and flavor.. as well as the bitterness. I also didn’t like the nitro mouthfeel for an IPA. Basically, I thought this was a mess because of one thing.

Bottle. Flowery hop aroma. Beautiful pour w/ nice lacing. Nice fruity, citrusy hop flavor w/ a mild piney finish. A very good IPA. Nice hop presentation here.

12 ounce bottle purchased from Nugget in Davis, CA on Mace. Nice floral, orange, citric aroma with some piney notes and some floral notes. Definitely some PNW hops in this bad boy. Very mildly hazy copper body with a nice frothy off-yellowish head. Beautiful lacing. I wish I could give this a 4.5 for appearance. Floral, mildly astringent start with some nutty maltiness in the middle that is somewhat shy. Finishes with a big dose of grapefruity hops and a relatively dry finish. I don’t know about this. The weird astringency and the dry finish just kind of turn me off.
