Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

(Stockholm Beer Festival 2006) Orange, white head. Hoppy, citric and grassy aroma. Very hoppy flavor, very much an american IPA.

[Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival] Hazy pale amber, minimal head. Rich sweaty lychee aroma. Dryish with clean mouthfeel. Aromatic and over-hoppy, yet light and drinkable. Lingering very bitter finish.

Thanks Robin, for this one. Light amber-orange coloured with a large white head. Sweet hoppy aroma, with some smaller malty touches. Full sweet hoppy-bitter fruity taste. Finish is bitter but fruity, light roasted. Not bad.

Any first impressions?
-A slim sheet of foam covers the misty orange.
-An expanding perfume of wooden, earthy, resinous, orangey hoppiness dances for the nostrils.
-The caramel maltiness attempts to balance out the orangey, piney hop flavor.
-The effervescent carbonation is a little too ebullient for the large gulps this one deserves.

What if you dig deeper?
-The strong wooden, earthy hop bitterness continuously advises you to take another sip.
-The hoppy perfume even deploys a floral bouquet; I am ready to get reeled in.
-There is a little too much crystal malt apport for my personal tastes in American IPAs, and that carbonation is too energetic, but overall this is a fine example of the style I would love to get to know better.

Draft. Rich amber beer with a big off-white head. Citrus/pine hop flavor with some cocoa/chocolate backing. Citrus hop aroma that could be a bit stronger. Medium bodied, easy drinking, dry finish.

Tasted 15/09/2006. 12oz bottle from BrewNZ. Late at night with Brendon and Steve, after a few Limburg Oude Reserve’s, so the notes are minimal (and hard to read). Deep rose gold, some may say amber. Bright. Off-white head rises and disappears like coke. Toffee malt plus floral and grapefruit hops on the nose, quite pungent. Dry caramelised malt flavour is hardly detectable with all that grapefruit hop flavour and the obscene bitterness... wow! A real tongue number - as Greig McGill called it. I hope Neil Miller got some of this.

(draught at Papago’s) Medium amber. Not much aroma, but nice floral hops flavor. Solid IPA.
