Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

Light grassy hop nose, low scumy head, hazy amber. Sweet light caramel malt, big hop end but rounded that fills the mouth. Great west coast IPA.

Bottle from Sun Devil. Pours a dark shade of amber with a soapy tan head -- looks great. Smells of citrus zest and caramel. Tastes of both with additional notes of dates, flour, malt, brown sugar, and bitter hops on the mid-palate. Quite nice.

Pours ordinary amber with generous, meringue-like jiggly head that retains a thin layer down through the pint. Nose is very fruity with some candyish aromas in there too. On the palate there’s a balance of sweet caramel malt with sharp citrusy hop flavors. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy. Very drinkable.

bottle- thanks to Shelby! Pours a clear burnished copper color, thin off white head that clears fast to leave a thin layer. Aroma on the muted side that delivers as advertised- earthy citrus grapefruits and oranges with some hints of pine needles in the background, and some smooth caramel sweetness. Nose is pleasant, if not especially unique or exciting. Flavor starts with earthy, resinous bitterness on a tamed scale. Hop profile shows less citrus than the nose, with much more earthy floral notes and resins; some orange and lemon citrus notes as well. Malt balance shows through with smooth, dry, semisweet caramel and biscuits. Flavor follows the nose- solid and good, but nothing especially unique. Palate is thick, full, and clean with a smooth finish and even carbonation. Overall a good, solid IPA, nothing to get too excited over but would regularly show up in my fridge if I could get it in MA.

Coppery amber, smells a nice balance of hops and sweetness. Taste is nice hops, light grapefruit bitterness, middle taste is, I swear, exactly like those big orange ’Circus Peanut’ candies. Really interesting. Finish is nice bitter, not overpowering, not too watery. Nice, solid IPA.

Super hazy deep amber coloured body with a thin off-white head. Aroma of hops and nice malt with a good nutty twang. Good bitter taste with balanced malt and a slightly hoppy taste. Good all around, but the hops definitely come out. Aftertaste shows clean flavours with some strong hops and alcohol as well. Overall, a nice beer - definitely good to try! I sampled this beer on draught at Henry’s 12th St Tavern in Portland, Oregon on 09-September-2006.

Aroma: Floral, resinous, citrus and slight caramel notes. Appearance: The beer pours dark copper, clear and has a creamy off white head that persists. Flavor: Bitter with caramel malt back bone. Mouth Feel: The beer has medium body with a semi-dry finish and leaves mild tingle on the tongue. Overall Impression: The bitterness is prominent, while the hops aroma and flavor is not; a solid IPA worth drinking
