Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

Draft at Ritger’s Hawaii. Decent hoppy aromas off this golden amber pour with a really nice head. Flavors were similar. Strong hops of citrus and grass of the finish. Not bad

on nitro tap: aroma is subdued PNW hops. Usual notes of grapefruit, pine, citrus, other fruits, caramel, blah blah. However, the nitro thing completely killed this for me. It subdued the aroma and flavor.. as well as the bitterness. I also didn’t like the nitro mouthfeel for an IPA. Basically, I thought this was a mess because of one thing.

A dark amber appearance. A soapy citrus aroma with a smack of perfume. The flavor is a little one sided with bitter lemon peels, orange, and caramel showing. The mouthfeel is slightly creamy. A decent IPA.

bottle. murky maroon body with a nice gray white head. sweet hop nose of of grapefruit and pineapple. flavor is sticky pine with a strong grass finish. this has a decent malt side. the sweetness is a bit more up front after the second glass. caramel and bubble gum. the bitterness gets a bit tacky on the roof of my mouth after a bit. overall an enjoyable beer. this six pack will not last long.

On tap at West Coast Brewfest. This amber ale poured wth a decent beige head. It’s very hoppy, but otherwise a rather standard brew.

Amber with a thin off white head. Aroma is a caramel maltiness with a subdued northwest hoppy character. Taste is an initial sweetness followed by the maltiness, and a slight almond like character.

Bottle (in NZ). Pours a bright reddy-amber with a large foamy off-white head. Yummy hop aroma, more pine than citrus for me, combined with toffee from the malt. The hops and malt don’t combine so well on the palate, the bitterness lacks balance and the malt is nearly non-existent. The citrus dominates the pine in the flavour this time, while the finish is a touch chalky.

12 Oz Bottle. Intense resin and hop cone pine sap, floral explosion. Dense and full of resin glands, in a land somewhere between grapefruit and cedar. Amber-orange, clearish, with soapy mass of golden-tinted head. Lacing beautifully. Flavor loses a lot of the initial hop character and slides into a more planty sweetness, with some wispy floral runs and a good candied hop cone sugar supporting. Bitterness builds over flavor as the beer settles on the tongue. Oranges and orange blossom honey perk up and join a nip of yeast and nisu for a run through the land of lemongrass. Chewy and mouth filling, yet maintaining and airy sense of drinkability. Rich. Filtering may either give it some fresh clarity and cleanliness, or reduce depth, hard to tell. Otherwise, nicely done.
