Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

Had this beer on 7/3/2006. Aroma has a nice maltiness to it with faint tones of hops on the back. Color is a deep golden with good carbonation and a nice tight head. Taste is soapy and bitter. Starting with a medium body it goes down with the bite of bitterness coming on. Finish comes on with a soap like taste that is followed by a sharp bitterness and ends with a taste that is like biting into the peel of an orange. All of this leaves you with a sharp bitter feel in the back of your mouth. It is way to bitter and unbalanced for me.

Magnificant golden amber color. White, thin head. Pine, citrus and apples hit the nose with underlying caramel malt. Starts muted, but then hops kick the back of the mouth in the teeth (??). This beer is all about the back of the mouth and throat. Bitterness lingers. Finish starts malty then kicks in some hops. Dry bitter finish with some residual caramel malt flavors. Overall just lacked some depth in the middle, but I am drunkanyways and enjoying this beer with curry, so whatever.

I think this is a good IPA. Pours an amber color with chunky white floaters (not cloudy floaters like most beers). Aroma of citrus, hops, and caramel malt. Taste of grapefruit and critrus with malty caramel flavor. Fairly sweet with a bitter hop balance. Leaves a nice hoppy after taste.

(draught at Papago’s) Medium amber. Not much aroma, but nice floral hops flavor. Solid IPA.

Simple or simply enjoyable. After having IPA after IPA I may be able to pull more elements from said beers or distinguish this or that, but realistically my mind is muddled as ever and I revert to the situation at hand which happens to be this beer which happened to be yet another gift from my good friend Doug and it just so happens that I like it. I likED it. I liked it a lot. So there.

Bottle poured into shaker. Hazy copper/amber colour with light sediment. Good carbonation, tan film with cascading lace. Aroma is floral hops but the flavour really hits hard with the 75 IBUs appearing as bitter pink grapefruit. Very pleasant.

Clear amber. Toffee and butterscotch aroma backed by mellow orange hops. Smells of British crystal malt. Toffee and orange flavor, super bitter. Not too bad. More like an amped up English IPA than a NW IPA. Summit hops?

Bottle... pours a hazy orange/red with a great looking off-white head that lasted a little while. Throughout the whole glass there was always a thin head on top of the liquid, which made it look great. Sweet, hoppy aroma with a touch of caramel. Nice fizzy palate.. Flavors of strong hops and citrus fruit and a great floral aftertaste. This beer has an awesome bite to it and one of the better IPAs I have had yet.
