COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 80

FlacoAlto (3154) - Tucson, USA - JUN 4, 2006

Pours a lightly hazy, bit o chunky, reddish amber color that is topped by a frothy, light tan colored head that starts to leave a bit of Belgian lace as it falls from its initial two-finger height. The beer is suitably, and satisfyingly hoppy in the aroma. Notes of grapefruit, sweet tangerine and to a lesser degree pungent pine notes combine to form a formidable hop character. A touch of malt is found in the aroma as well; a dry toasted malt note is there if you dig for it. This beer’s aroma really has an intense, sweet, citrus fruit focus to it. It is quite nice and on this alone I highly recommend this beer.

The taste is lightly sweet up front, hoppy from the get go, but the hops don’t really start to take off until you get to the middle portion of a sip. Pungent, with a slight astringency, the hops are a mix of citrus notes (grapefruit, tangerine, candied orange peel, and some apricot like notes), and an herbal character that mixes with some sharp pine-like resinous notes. The malt plays second fiddle here, but there are some toasty malt notes as well as a malt sweetness, which helps to accentuate the fruity hop notes. A solid bitterness starts to grip my mouth at about the middle point of a sip, and picks up a full on, lingeringly astringent bitter note in the finish. The bitterness almost has a minty quality to it because of its fresh vibrancy.

I have been drinking this beer for about two weeks now and I am finding that if I have a fresh hop craving this just hits the spot. I highly recommend this beer, especially if you can get a fresh sample.

Bottle. Pours a copper amber with light off-white head. Lovely floral and fruity hops in the aroma. Flavor is well balanced between the malts and hops, with a heavy bitter bite in the finish. Pretty good, but a bit too bitter for me.

Dark amber body. Large off white head. Good Lacing. Strong malty, caramel nose with a bit of resinous, piney hops. Flavor is similarly benign and uninspired. Medium bodied with appropriate carbonate. Overall, a pretty middling effort -- would think this was an old IPA but for the best by date of 8/15/2012.

You smell the malt and hops on the pour and notice the beautiful crystsl clear dark amber color. The taste is just as the aroma suggests, a perfect blend of hops and malt. Tis leaves a bitter taste but the maltiness evens it out well leaving a bitter aftertaste. Inversion is smooth with a medium body and it leaves you wating for the next sip. A great brew worth a daily buy.

Inversion IPA has a rich amber hue with hints of ruby light. It poured with a tall head, beige that lingera a good while. Aroma is not as hop forward as I thought. Hops are light but refreshing but more malt sweetness comes through than hops. The taste is hoppy and bitter but no standout hop flavor, a mesh mash. I was thinking this would been like an WC IPA and that was my thinking but a good IPA none the less. The label and discrip. say NWIPA perhaps thats a bit different then a West coast, I don’t know. Anyway, it’s highly drinkable.

Great IPA. Full floral aroma and a nice clean finish! Another hit from Deschutes Brewery!

[Bottle] Pours deep amber with a soapy off-white head. The aroma is resiny, fairly heavy on the caramalts, plenty of grapefruit, some sharpness from the malt and hop combo, light alcohol notes, and some darker, more earthy notes that I assume are from the hops. The flavor is a little sweet, metallic, caramelly, resiny and earthy hops, and that typical Deschutes yeast character. The finish is long and bitter, the mouthfeel is soft, and the carbonation is medium. I wonder if this one is a little bit old.

Poured from a 12 ounce single while watching the Champions League final. Pours to a copper, with a thin beige head. Leaves a very nice lacing considering the thin head. Scent of hops and citrus. This tastes great at the frontend with a caramel taste followed by a hoppy citrus flavor. Very nice, and I could toast a goal by Mueller of Bayern Munich with it!

May 14, 2012 at Stellas Fish cafe with my homeboy Chino. Tap, translucent orangish brown pour with nice head and lacing. Citrus hops in aroma and taste, little bit of caramel malt in there and a mild bitter finish. Not a bad option on the rooftop for a 80 degree day in Minneapolis!

On tap. Nice clear copper ale with thin but foamy head. Lots of lace. Aroma is quite faint. This IPA is very lean. Not very malty or fruity and little perceptible sweetness. The hop bitterness is there, but it is very one dimensional and really lingers on the back of the tongue. Good mouth feel. This beer was decent but didn’t wow me in any way whatsoever.

Pours orange-amber color with a small off white head. Aroma is of citrus, some pine, a lot of sweet malts, and caramel. flavor is maltier then I expected with a lot of sweet malts, caramel, with citrus and pine more in the background. Has a medium body with a slightly watery mouthfeel and a semi dry, bitter finish. overall, a pretty good IPA that has a big malt backbone that tones down the hoppiness.
