Rastacouere (5350), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 26, 2004 Cloudy brown body, no head anymore. Complex malty aroma, smoky and oak-barrel reminiscent. Various sweet malt notes like chocolate, toffee, mint… Big barrel taste, woody with subtle English hops references. Toffee like sweetness lets room for a bitter coffee alike finish. Taste comparable to a “smoked barrel” and sweet caramel if anything. Low carbonation, medium bodied. A rarity worth seeking out. CaptainCougar (4663), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jan 14, 2004 Pours a murky deep brown with a thin light tan head. Rich plum aroma with the backround of faded hops and some alcohol. Sweet caramel toffee malt presence adds a good amount of complexity to the raisin bread body. Finishes smooth and more bitter with some warming alcohol. A very nice brew, but I'd guess this probably peaked about a year ago. Still quite drinkable and enjoyable, thanks drismyhero! BückDich (4558), Boise, Idaho, USA Sep 17, 2004 Very nice dark mahogany color with crimson fire edges. The head is light but lasting with no lacing. The aroma is oaky with notes of rice sweetness and nutmeg with spicy hops and chocolate malts. Very fruity and complex with some sweetness and apparent toasty clean grains. Aging is apparent with some carob and a full creamy body. Very delicious beer, not what I was expecting. Woo! #1600! MartinT (4377), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 1, 2004 An evocative oration of barrel-aged qualities escapes the neck of the bottle upon opening and draws the nose into one of the most beautiful stories which can be told...Port wine, burning sugar and a bouquet of dark fruits adorn the aroma splendidly but draw back from the front line once tasted, leaving only a shadow of the aroma’s complexity (which is still very good, mind you)...The barrel flavors burglarize the malt’s multiple personalities and overwhelm the remaining subtleties to leave only rich but nondescript sweetness and a black peppery twist...Hop bitterness appears confidently in the last half, but the elation of the first sniff and sip cannot be regained...A blazing acumen which does not take the time to explain clearly its wealth of knowledge...
