COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This ‘Super Jubel’ was discovered by accident two decades ago when a clumsy burglar didn’t realize the weight of his stolen keg of Jubelale. He dropped it outside to freeze in the season’s sub-zero temperatures – only to be discovered the next morning by Gary Fish, Deschutes Brewery owner. More than half the liquid in the keg had frozen and the remaining beer was a very cold, highly concentrated ‘Jubelale on steroids.’ It was so good that the brewers set about recreating it, coming up with an annual ‘Super Jubel’ that is aged in oak barrels. A limited amount has been available on tap every year, 2010 will be only the second time that the brewery has bottled up this brew for sale. The first time it was available by bottle was a special millennium edition in 2000.

Pours a dark brown but loses some clarity (some other darks can still show light through). Smells of coffee and chocolate but with a strong alcohol aroma as well. Taste is much like the regular jubel, syrupy and coffee are the most prominent but this tastes a bit too much of alcohol. Could probably have used more shelf time to mellow out.

Soft, creamy, with raisin and cherry notes on the nose. An attractive ruby colour, with a very thin head. Taste is a delicate and perfectly balanced; somewhat sweet, thin body.

Murky brown color with no head. Light brown sugar aroma and a hit of what will likely by oxydized malt in the flavor. Not as bad as I expected, but definitely some of that "old stale malt" character. Quite dry. Some molasses/brown sugar.

Bottle, 04/05/2013. Pours dark brown, thin beige head dies to a swirly crema on the surface, viscous soapy lacing. Aroma on the sweeter side, toffee and candied dark fruits, tart vinous notes not too heavy, dull chocolate background, vanilla and caramel, oxidation in the finish. Taste is dark fruits and berries covered in chocolate, medium roast notes with faded resinous hops, bitterness, a bit of booze with long bourbon aftertaste. Medium full palate. Still drinking alright, changed considerably from what I remember upon release

Holding up really nicely 3 years on. The aroma suggests that the alcohol content is higher than most 3-year-old beers normally do but there is also some solid rye bread, brown sugar, and caramel. The palate is rich and warm with nice sweet bakery flavors. Wish I had more of this.

Pours a cloudy deep amber/brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is oxidized and has mild dark fruits. Flavor has some caramel and dark fruits with light earthy hop notes...definitely oxidized. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is cardbaord/fruity.

650 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with medium head. Aroma similar to a Belgian Quad: brown sugar, roasted malts, and subtle dark fruit. Beautiful flavors (as of 2013) of caramel, rich malts, raisins/prunes, and light spice.

Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, dry with mild fine carbonation. Creamy malt with lactose sweetness and rich dark toffee. A little oaky vanilla. Mild orange hop brings up the rear. Dry finish. Nicely joined up rich tasty treat.

Dark brown in color, clear with a thin tan head. Nice Carmel and big wood and super strong. Let this beer warm up and the fantastic flavors and aromas come out.

Bottle. Pours a hazy deep amber with a purple hue and a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a note of bread with a backing caramel sweetness. Flavor starts with an underlying sweetness and an earthy bread note that has a bit of hay.

Bottle. Murky reddish amber color with light head and thin lacing.  Great molasses and caramel aroma. Taste of sweet caramel, popcorn, malty, very smooth. Slight orange peel tone.
