COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This ‘Super Jubel’ was discovered by accident two decades ago when a clumsy burglar didn’t realize the weight of his stolen keg of Jubelale. He dropped it outside to freeze in the season’s sub-zero temperatures – only to be discovered the next morning by Gary Fish, Deschutes Brewery owner. More than half the liquid in the keg had frozen and the remaining beer was a very cold, highly concentrated ‘Jubelale on steroids.’ It was so good that the brewers set about recreating it, coming up with an annual ‘Super Jubel’ that is aged in oak barrels. A limited amount has been available on tap every year, 2010 will be only the second time that the brewery has bottled up this brew for sale. The first time it was available by bottle was a special millennium edition in 2000.

22oz bomber, best after 1/29/11, courtesy of sparky27. thanks, eric! pours a deep, dark, ruby red with a thin, whispy, tan head leaving a ring of rubbly lace. aroma is great with big notes of sweet fruit cake complete with dried cherries, candied prunes, raisins, brown sugar, and a hint of spice with touches of chocolate, earthy hops, and wet wood. flavor is wonderful as well with more assertive notes of caramel malts, molasses, and chocolate with hints of coffee peaking through and balanced by sweet, rum-soaked fruit notes of cherry, prune, and fig with a toasted oak finish. palate is full bodied and just a bit sticky on the tongue with light carbonation and beautifully integrated boozy warmth. overall, a great beer now and will be amazing with a couple years on it.

Bottle from a trade with cbkschubert. Pours clear very dark copper color with thin tan head. Aromas of caramel, sugar, oak, and alcohol. Sweet caramel and toffee flavors with dark fruits and oak. Alcohol burn is noticeable. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. Thanks Craig.

2010 Bottle. Fantastic nose of smoky breakfast - bacon, maple, some woodiness. Pours a red-brown with slight head and lacing. The taste follows the nose, with some added carmel. Drinks very easy with a nice finish. Probably worth a trip back to the whole in the wall liquor store I found it at for another bottle.

Lots of dark fruits, chocolate, toffee and warm vanilla. Hints of wine and wood. Taste and feel follow the nose very much. Body is a bit thinner than expected and the alcohol does have a good punch. Solid sipper weather it is a barleywine or a strong ale.

22 oz. bottle from kmweaver- thanks again! Best after 1/29/2011. I also felt the need to put "2010" in my notes for some reason. Pours a dark brown-amber color with a finger of beige head. Notes of chocolate, roasted malts, nuts, dark fruits, oak, earth, and toasted brown sugar. Medium-bodied, with a nutty, toasty mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Good beer that doesn’t really adhere to any style.

Pours a dark dark black with mild foam. Has a nice oak taste, with butterscotch, raisin, and slight vanilla. It aged very nice. The alcohol is a little predominate but overall another great beer from Deschutes.

65 cl bottle. Best after 29.01.2011.
Pours dark red color with small off-white head. Aroma of sugar candy, raisins, mild plums, caramel malts, toffee and wooden notes. Flavor of sugar candy, caramel malts, ripe fruits, raisins, toffee and some roasty notes. Despite the overly sweetness, this seems to be quite balanced brew with pleasant complex flavors.

65 cl bottle @ olio, ”Best after 29.01.2011”
Aroma is quite ’American’ with sweet malt, sugar and hops with ripe fruits. Flavour is sweet with slightly harsh and roasted malt, some sugar, vanilla, ripe fruits and hints of nuts. Too sweet and sticky but decent anyway.

650 ml bottle. Best after 29.1.2011.
Pours a dark brown colour with a thick beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, oak and some dark fruits. Flavour of strong roasted malts, licorice, dark chocolate, oak, dark fruits and nuts. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel and a long, warming, oaky finish with some fruitiness. Very well balanced. Roastiness pairs well with the fruits and oak.

660ml bottle from Brewery Creek Liquor Store, Vancouver, BC

Best after 29.1.2011 - Pours dark brown, almost black, with a foamy and bubbly light brown head. Strong malty and sweet aroma with notes of ripe fruits, caramel and syrup. Taste is sweet and sticky with notes of oak, vanilla, caramel, licorice, roasted malts and syrup. Finish is roasty and malty with sweet syrupy and raisiny notes. Hints of rye, licorice and smoke. Okay, a bit too sweet for my taste, but otherwise quite well balanced.
