jimbowood (891), Athens, Georgia, USA Jun 27, 2009 Draft at pdx pub. I remember drinking this one in the hot tub in Jackson hole wy and loving it. This time, not so much. Way too bitter. TheSponge (231), Lynnwood, Washington, USA Jun 19, 2009 2008 Vintage -- 12 oz. bottle purchased at QFC in Harbour Pointe, WA. Pours a dark brown with a light tan head. Flavor: Sweet malt, dried fruit, and mild spice. tokyogoat (258), San Diego, California, USA May 7, 2009 Had this on a winter warmer tasting and it scored second best of winter warmers.
Pour was a nice amber/brown with a light foamy head. Great carbonation, and a little too thin. Which is my only negative on this one.
Flavors were sweet, lightly toasted spices, with a very light malty finish. SudsMcDuff (1572), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Apr 13, 2009 sweet, i wrote down the mighty boosh, e.s.p i guess .. . pours a dark brown .. .delicious stuff, a great winter warmer .. . bitter yet wonderfully smooth .. . Dogbrick (2645), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 27, 2009 Bottle at Burger Bar in Las Vegas. The beer is a mostly clear reddish-amber color with a medium and foamy light tan head that recedes slowly. Rings of lacing. Caramel malt aroma with some piney hops too. Medium body with flavors of dark fruit, burnt malt, and hops. The finish is moderately bitter with a hoppy aftertaste with a light caramel undertone. Pretty good overall. Chrism86 (232), Melbourne, Australia Mar 16, 2009 Pours red/brown with orange highlights and a nice tan coloured head. Nose has significant caramel malt sweetness with the addition of dark fruits. Palate is quite interesting, some chocolate and caramel early before a nice hit of fruit (apricot and darker raisins). Reminds me of fruit cake. Finish has typical US hop profile, long and medium bitterness. An intersting, modern take on an English Old Ale. Simalar in style to Emersons Old 95. PJClarke (494), London, Surrey, England Mar 13, 2009 Bottle, 2008 vintage:
Deep and ruddy brown and red hues capped by a healthy and sustained beige head. Aromas touch on easy but rich fruity flavours combined with a heady brandy vibe. Very rich flavours. Dusky malts and rich winter fruits. Dried mincemeats followed by sweet marzipan and hot brandy. Very Christmassy. It’s thickness flows wonderfully with the festive flavours. Balanced and boozy Christmas feel. Deep intense flavours with a great rosy glow. seanbhudson (53), , California, USA Mar 4, 2009 APPEARANCE: Pours a dark orange / brown with a medium tan head that dissipates at an average rate. Good amount of lacing.
SMELL:
Moderate roasted malts, raisins and allspice
TASTE:
Smooth roasted malt taste. Hint of bitter chocolate. Finishes with a slight bitterness and long lasting roasted coffee taste.
MOUTHFEEL:
Medium bodied beer with slight creamy texture and soft carbonation.
DRINKABILITY:
Easy drinking beer. I just expected a little more complexity. I did not pick up all the fruit and spice flavors others were talking about.
