MI2CA (1260), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Nov 13, 2006 12oz - BB 01/12/05 - thanks Dukefan - Mild aroma of carmel, chocolate, dark fruit, fig, and a touch of spice. Pours muddy brown with no head or lacing. Flavor matches aroma. Palate is barely there. I think this one is past it’s prime. Thin and not as flavorful as the aroma. Makes me want a freshy. KAME (156), California, USA Nov 12, 2006 2006 bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown, with a medium frothy head. Aroma is nutty and malty, and slightly metallic. Flavor is of banana Laffy Taffy, caramel, ending in a nice piney bitter finish. Body is nice and filling. This a pretty good brew, and makes a nice winter warmer. talon1117 (613), Bellvue, Colorado, USA Nov 11, 2006 Updated: Jan 24, 2008Pours a deep garnet with clarity; wonderful head, full, mostly lasting, creamy/pillowy, light tan, and some nice lacing. Nose is toffee, toasty almonds, hints of chocolate, and some pine hops and light roast notes in the back; rather pleasant. Flavor does not match the nose; toffee and almonds with some light dried fruit notes with plenty of piney/earthy hops and a medium-high bitterness. The bitterness lingers through the finish with the pine and leaves a long tingling on the tongue. Palate is medium bodied, moderate carbonation, and a creamy, dryish feel. Good winter warmer, but could improve with some aging. Nothing spectacular, but well done beer for the cold months in Colorado. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Nov 10, 2006 12-oz, ’06. Pours a deep ruddy brown with a swirl of tannish head that falls to film pretty much by the time you walk to wherever you’re going to sit and drink the thing. Nice toasty malt on the nose--this carries through to the palate in a big way. Medium body, low-medium carb. On the palate, there’s that toasty malt again, maybe a little very subdued toffeeishness. Mostly just crisp roasty flavors, though. Enormously appealing. The finish hookslides into a big bubble of earth and herbal bitterness. I dig what unclemattie’s saying about tobacco, but that wouldn’t have been the first word I’d’ve used to describe it. This is a really fine effort, and I honestly can’t remember past vintages well enough to know if this one’s different. Regardless, cheers to Deschutes for another solid achievement. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Nov 10, 2006 Gift from asteele8. 2006 Vinage. Dark reddish-brown in color. Impressive almond colored head. Aroma of malts, nuts, caramel, some pine. Very smooth texture and a balanced palate. Very sweet. Light flavors of choclate, tobacco. Great ale to just sit back and enjoy a sweet maduro cigar with. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Nov 4, 2006 Dark amber. Aroma is flowery and spicy hops with caramel and hints of chocolate and darker fruits. Unlike most of their other ’English’ beers, this one felt much more English... but not 100% genuine either. greenhorn1 (458), Mission Viejo, California, USA Nov 4, 2006 2006 12 oz bottle. Pours a nice red brown with a creamy head. Aroma has hints of chocolate, spices, hops, and coffee. Flavor is very similiar in addition to sweet toasted carmel notes. Nice dry hop finish. 2006 Jubelale far exceeds previous years attempts. fakepurseninja (773), Washington, USA Nov 3, 2006 Updated: Jan 14, 2009This is a nice Strong amber ale, very malty and smooth. Mix of holiday spices with some summer fruit elements that do very well in masking a somewhat strong alcohol bite. Can taste some pine tree notes in there as well. Liked the hop kick too. Strong, complex malt essence. Another fine offering from what is becoming one of my favorite brewers.
Re-rating a 2006 I have had sitting around for 1+ year now. Absolutely incredible. Flavors have softened but become richer and more indecernable. Excellent drink.
