OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Mar 22, 2006 2005 bottle via trade with awaisanen - Thanks Andy! - Pours deep brown with a short creamy tan head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, some raisins, and some pine hops. Flavor is sweet caramel at the front with a touch of chocolate but finishes with some pretty sharp pine hop bitterness. Somewhat dry finish as well. Palate is creamy and medium bodied. A very drinkable English Strong Ale.. JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Mar 18, 2006 Deep burgundy-purple, near black; irregular yellow-amber head. Very fruity nose, dark grapes and a piney background. Dark malts abund. Dry, piney hops flavour. Malts are there, but they don’t stamp their imprint on the taste. There’s a bit of creamy coffee whirling around in the background, lending the rather good body a velvety feel. A good ale, but I wonder about the supposed English character. Then again, who cares if the beer’s OK? Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 9, 2006 Pour is nice ruby amber with a thin tan head...smell is nice and dry malty with some raisins and pine floating about...taste is a little caramel-like sweet at first and only for a split second, then turning pretty strongly bitter...mouthfeel is a little weak and something seems off about the finish... elnadeau (786), Laguna Niguel, California, USA Feb 8, 2006 Bottle, 2005 vintage. Translucent brownish color, smallish head with lacing. Aroma is toasty bread, fruit and engllish hoppy, flavor followed well for me. At first I thought it needed some more body but it may have been just a bit too cold because after half of the glass I thought it was well rounded, well balanced and satisfying. A nicely crafted winter ale. mkobes (2103), paramus, New Jersey, USA Feb 5, 2006 12 oz bottle. Deep copper in color with a little head. Thin tasting. Fruity and hoppy aroma. Caramel notes. Malty and fruity tasting. Finish is hoppy.
Ok. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Feb 5, 2006 12 oz bottle. For the style, it’s not bad but maybe I don’t care for the style. Body is thinner than it should be. Taste is light caramel and hoppy. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Feb 5, 2006 Draught at Falling Rock in Denver. Pours dark walnut brown with a foamy off-white head and creamy lacing. Aroma is malt (straw) and hoppy citrus fruit, trace yeast. Flavor is medium bitter and acidic, malty citrus rind with no sweetness to it. Medium bodied and creamy, fizzy palate. thoreaubred (42), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 28, 2006 This beer didn’t really impress me that much. Boring flavor compared to other Deschutes beers. Like their Twilight Ale, it’s a little two watery, though Twilight Ale makes up for that with falvor, which this doe not. Alcohol taste is noticable but not too strong.
