jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA Jan 22, 2005 2004 - Pours dark red with a medium head that sticks around. Aroma is od sweet malt, biscuit, and a mild grassy/spicy hop. Flavor is slight roast, some biscuit, sweet malt, and a slight grassy hop in the finish. Palate is on the thin side but not so much as to really take anything away from this nice malty winter warmer. thefatmanrocks (22), California, USA Jan 11, 2005 2004

Overall = Not their best. Thier best was 2001 and 2003 a close second. Don’t know if they change recipies or just labels every year, but maybe my tastes change every year. Next year I will get another 6 pack and hopefully unlike this year, go back for more every shopping trip in Dec. atpayne (615), Zionsville, Indiana, USA Jan 6, 2005 Pours a deep ruby red with somewhat small tan head. Aroma is malty, slight roast and some sweetness. There are also presense of some typically european hop aromas. The flavor is a bit carmely sweet and quite full in feel. Roasted flavor mixes with hops at the back of the tongue and top of the mouth. Decent balance in this clean tasting beer. jackbocracken (36), Washington, USA Dec 31, 2004 Updated: Jan 31, 20052004. This is the first English Strong Ale I’ve tasted so take this rating with a grain of salt, but this beer is quite flavorful and reminded me of the bitter taste in dark chocolate, minus the chocolate flavor, if that makes any sense at all. leitrim65 (398), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 31, 2004 Clear mahogany color with a small tan head. An aroma of caramel and toffee malt along with a touch of pine. Medium bodied with an oily texture. Flavors of caramel and toffee that finish with a gentle hop sensation. Nicely done. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Dec 29, 2004 2004 bottle. Gorgeous ruby coloured beer with 1" of lasting foamy head on top. Creamy texture. Warm bready aroma, sweet caramel malts with a light hop spiciness and resin. Also baking spices and a touch of sweet fruitiness. Nice sweet caramel and toffee flavour up front before tasting candied fruit, a nice bready yeast flavour, spice and a long lasting bitter finish. There is also a light toastiness near the end of the finish. This is a great winter warmer. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA Dec 28, 2004 This wasn’t bad. Dark reddish copper body under a small beige head. The aroma was a nice blend of malt, hops, citrus, pine. Good body. The taste was a rewarding blend of malt and hops. Good robust English ale. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Dec 23, 2004 ’04 bottle. What a great looking beer! Very dark brown brown/purple body with a dense foamy head that leaves thick lacing. Nutty, flower petal aroma with a caramel background. Overall this is a dry beer. Stout-like with its coffee bean start, but honey doughnuts and molasses help to round it out some. The finish has some hizops, let’s call them "grassily spicy". A pretty good beer in the end. The dry malt and spicy hops work well together, and the dark sweet malts make it into a richer, more satisfying drink.
