seanbhudson (54), , California, USA Mar 4, 2009 APPEARANCE: Pours a dark orange / brown with a medium tan head that dissipates at an average rate. Good amount of lacing.
SMELL:
Moderate roasted malts, raisins and allspice
TASTE:
Smooth roasted malt taste. Hint of bitter chocolate. Finishes with a slight bitterness and long lasting roasted coffee taste.
MOUTHFEEL:
Medium bodied beer with slight creamy texture and soft carbonation.
DRINKABILITY:
Easy drinking beer. I just expected a little more complexity. I did not pick up all the fruit and spice flavors others were talking about.
NOTES: BBCSD-0812-Danielle JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Feb 21, 2009 12oz bottle from riversideAK - thanks, Alex! Dark orange pour with a pretty lively head. Prickly carbonation releases a fairly anonymous aroma, some hop bitterness, an astringent and slightly boozy smell. Some sweet malts to taste, but very dry and bitter for the most part. Touch of wood and spice, but it’s a bit too one-dimensional to my taste. Itzjerm (70), Harvest, Alabama, USA Feb 21, 2009 Not a bad winter ale. Not to hoppy. Very drinkable. You will have to be a beer consular. Still some hops but light. High alchol content in general smooth. Overall I woudl give a B. zach8270 (2051), Henrietta, New York, USA Feb 17, 2009 (bottle - 12 oz - 2008 vintage) Copper color with a very creamy tan head. Aroma is sweet and spicy with lots of caramel and some hops underneath it. Flavor has a very nice spice note at the beginning with some good caramel, allspice, and cloves. Finishes clean and lightly bitter and lingering. Barreras (121), Diamond Bar, California, USA Feb 16, 2009 Bottle from Whole Foods, good beer with medium copper color, a little bitter at first with spicy notes in taste. Overall a good Winter seasonal from Deschutes Cavie (1317), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Feb 8, 2009 Dark pour and makes a nice winter ale, however it was alittle too hoppy for me to enjoy. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Jan 29, 2009 (12 oz bottle, 2008) Amber in color with a small beige head. Aroma is of malt, brown sugar, and fruit. Flavor is of malt and toffee, with a good hop bitterness to balance it out. nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Jan 29, 2009 Legitimate BevMo grab at worst, very good winter beer at best. The Jubelale is a solid bet for any occasion, from Christmas to your 50th birthday, or as Shibu of Ernie’s Liquors used to call it before he got deported, the "golden jubilee." Copper color, off-white head. Nice aroma of hops, spices, and sweet malt. Well-spiced with good maltiness but not a very full body. Some hops, typical profile of Deschutes brews.
