Poured a dark copper/red color with off white head. the aroma of sweet malts, hops and spices and possibly dark fruits. The flavor was very good, my first winter beer this year. Taste is rather complex for a Christmas beer. Begins slightly bitter with a roasted nutty flavor which leads to sweeter caramel notes and then finishes with a bit of hop bitterness, then a light xmas Spice. Very enjoyable offering, This will be one of my sought after brews every year. Too bad I live in Ohio.

Bottle. Pours dark mahogany with a medium tan head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, roasted malts and earth. Flavor of roasted malts, caramel, toffee, dark fruit, earthy spices and had a dry and bitter finish. Medium bodied, creamy texture, light carbonation.

A- Pours a very dark brownish red hue with a nice, frothy, off white head. S- Dark fruits, hints of spice T- Starts out with dark fruit, raisin, prune and moves into roasted malt, bits of coffee with some mixed spices. M- Creamy, medium bodied with medium/low carbonation. D- Nice little winter warmer. Not my favorite but I wouldnt mind trying it again.

Pours a dark garnet color as advertised. Aroma is slight hops, malts and all kinds of spice. Reminds me of a winter night by the fire. Taste is spices up front, some mild malts and hops with a nutmeg and chicory finish. Mouth feel is smooth with a bit or carbonation. The spices change as it warms in your mouth.

Bottle from 99 Bottles (Federal Way, WA). Sweet malty and spicy nose. Deep reddish brown color. Rich roast malt, licorice, cinnamon, and maybe peppermint. Medium body. Tasty, but a bit weak-flavored stuff for a winter ale. The overall spice profile comes across as something artificial or chemical. Tastes more like a spiced doppelbock. A disappointment, really.

Draft at Sprenger’s. Clear reddish brown with generous cap of off-white foam. Low cola and cookie spice aromas. Flavors are fronted by a sharp bitter with raisin, molasses, marmalade, and even licorice playing backup. Low pH and clean minerality make for a brief palate but for the longer resinous parts.
