4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Incredible old style English ale, great aroma and full malt flavor. Very strong hops influence in this one so it can be quite bitter. So if bitter ale, rich in hops is not your thing then this ale is not for you. Well worth trying and great with cheese dishes.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Review #400 and this is definitely worthy.12oz. bottle pours a reddish copper color with a medium fluffy off white head that leaves great lacing. Smells of citrus, caramel, dark fruit and roasted malt. Tastes of all the same things in the smell and also noticed the chicory the used in the finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and chewy with medium to light carbonation and a semi dry finish. This is one of my favorite winter warmers. Very complex, balanced, and full of great flavor. I also like the artwork that changes every year.

This is very nice. Surprisingly translucent pour, copper in color. No hops. Strong malt bill. Christmassy spices perfectly in balance. A-

Nice malty caramel aroma, not to strong. Pours clear ruby with a thin tan head. Great caramel and spice flavor with a bitter finish.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap - small foamy head, dark amber color, malty aroma and flavor, mild spice (expected more but it is very well balanced for a winter beer which is good), slight roasty character, really good overall

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear garnet pour with a 1 finger, yellow-beige head. Aroma is toast, toffee, biscuit, dark fruit, tree fruit, juniper, herbal, spicy and fruity hops. Flavor is earthy spice, hazelnut heavy nutty notes and earthy peppers up front, dark toffee, then wine simmered dark fruit, juniper-pine notes, husky grain, sorghum sweetness and herbal hops. Medium body with a creamy, maybe slightly slimy feel and light carbonation. Pretty good overall, but after one or two I am ready to move on to something else, something about it is just fatiguing to the palate.

Bottle. Pours copper with off-white head. Nose is pear, floral, caramel. Pear really comes out in the flavour with caramel and earthiness. Really liked the pear qualities in this one.

We did a blind taste test between this and 4 other Winter Seasonals to objectively determine which one was best. They beers were: Deschutes Jubelale, Anderson Valley Boont Winter Solstice, Big Sky Powder Hound, Alaskan Winter Ale, and Redhook Winterhook. Check it out:

Interesting diversion. Odd (but good) flavors reminiscent of ginger and other spices. Would choose over Blvd’s Nutcracker if ABV was higher.
