Incredible old style English ale, great aroma and full malt flavor. Very strong hops influence in this one so it can be quite bitter. So if bitter ale, rich in hops is not your thing then this ale is not for you. Well worth trying and great with cheese dishes.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep dark brown with good carbonation and a 1 finger brownish head. Has a nice deep toasty cereal and bready aroma, with hints of of molasses. Taste starts with that same warm maltiness with the tones of toasty and bready flavor with hints of biscuit throughout. Finishes with a crisp but not overbearing bitterness that warms the palate. Mouthfeel is a wet and moist feeling with no dryness. Overall this is a great winter ale and one I would go back to again and again

A nice red-brown garnet color with soapy lace. Smells of caramel malt, brown sugar, light spices and fruit. Medium body and course with mild spiced flavors like chicory, caramel malt, kilned grains, fruit, earthy and leafy hops. A nice winter celebration ale.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
The least interesting beer I’ve had from Deschutes since the brewery entered the Wisconsin market this year. Everything is just sorta average. Scent has a bit of fruit, maybe cherries?, the body is light, and the finish has a bit of bitterness. Other than that, with apologies to Gertrude Stein, there’s not a lot of there there.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This dark reddish brown beer has a slightly sweet aroma like fruit cake. It has a smokey but still slightly sweet undertone. A very good holiday option.

Aroma is citrus, orange, clove and sweet malts. Taste is a light sweet graininess matched with a fresh bitterness. Well balanced overall. Body is a cloudy orange/gold with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.

Btl pours a hazy dark reddish brown with a big frothy tan head that lingers leaving lots of lace on glass. Aromas of minerals, dark malt, brown sugar, dates, and cola. Tastes of sweet malt, caramel and earthy hops. Medium body, adequate carbonation, tingling mouthfeel and a dry slightly bitter finish. Nice easy drinking winter ale.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: DEC 27, 2014 Bottle pour. This is a festive treat! Pours a dark red, almost to brown color. Thin off white head with a small amount of lacing. The nose is English toffee and light clove. The spices here complement rather than overwhelm the palate. Definitely a complex winter seasonal - enough boozy heat and spice to make this a winter warmer but with plenty of other layers that allow for more balance and other pieces to fall into place. The toffee notes add a sweetness and brevity across the dark maltiness.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle, Calgary, AB, Canada via Zyn. Hazy dark amber, prune raisin aroma without being overly ’Chrstmasey’. Balanced flavour, thick, with more prune and clove then broken up with a nice resin bitterness.
