Flavor is strong, malty warming feel. Alcohol is there in the finish. Overall a very tasty winter warming beer. Thanks to Indiana Red for this tasty one! trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 21, 2007 Pours deep mahogany with brown hioghlights and a thin tan head. Nutty, roasted malt aroma, with a bit of spice (nutmeg? cinnamon?). Flat mouthfeel. A truckload of caramel malt lingers throughout, which the hops have the fight through. Some coffee and roasted malt. It really keeps true to a English Strong Ale without falling into the ESB category. jah noth (1023), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 3, 2004 Interesting, light fruity aroma with some sweetness. Ruby colored poured with small head and no lacing. Lots of sweet cherries in the flavor, lightly syrupy, with some hops to balance - slight pine and grass. Not a bad malty, winter brew. fidel (1021), Livermore, California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 7, 2005 Medium brown with a decent, diminshing head. Lots of caramels mixed with orange hops on the aroma. Plenty of grains and malt on the palate with a spiced background. Again, caramel. A round, full, and refreshingly simple Winter Ale. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 11, 2008 On cask at Horse Brass. Pours a deep dark reddish brown with nary a sign of a head. The nose is deeply infused with dark fruits. Figs, prunes, especially. Rather sweet. A light hint of a suggestion of spice, but I doubt there’s any actual spice in this. Very subtle floral hops. No alcohol character noted, so I’m surprised this is called an English strong... but then I see the ABV now! Flatter thinner mouthfeel, duh, it’s on cask. Not as watery as those tend to be. The flavors are just as the nose suggests, perhaps sweeter. The prunes take over the figs entirely. Maybe some raisin. Some caramel. No real chocolate, maybe a hint of roast. Floral hjops pop a bit more. A tasty yummy beer, but not one I’d drink a ton of in a sitting. kidmartinek (1004), austin, Texas, USA

Aroma of mild malt hops and background fruits. and some nuttiness. Flavor is nutty malty and a little hoppy and some caramel and spring water taste. Mouthfeel is easy.
