We did a blind taste test between this and 4 other Winter Seasonals to objectively determine which one was best. They beers were: Deschutes Jubelale, Anderson Valley Boont Winter Solstice, Big Sky Powder Hound, Alaskan Winter Ale, and Redhook Winterhook. Check it out:

Interesting diversion. Odd (but good) flavors reminiscent of ginger and other spices. Would choose over Blvd’s Nutcracker if ABV was higher.

Pours a nice dark cherry hued mahogany with a sheet of light tan foam. Smells of sweet malt, hints of nougat and ginger a bit of vanilla and graham, decent nose. Flavor is of dry, roasted malts with some coffee, some leather, some bitterness and a hint of rye bread. Medium bodied with limited carb and a slick, yet dry on acrid finish. Interesting beer, not sure I’m a huge fan yet.

A: a cherry red beer pours with a finger of tan pink foam and excellent clarity. Spotty lace.
S: Sharp hops and sweet malts with a bit of nutmeg and cinnamon.
T: hmm the yeast is no good and too strong to me. Some metallic flavors, some astringency. Meh.
M: thin with moderate carb. Semi dry finish.
O: well, not my favorite. Not bad.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a dark copper with tan head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, and dark fruit (plums). Very sticky mouthfeel. Very malt forward picking up the more earthy notes. Slight hop bitterness in the middle with an ever lingering sweet fruit/toffee finish. Flavors cling to the roof of the mouth and very slowly dissipate.

From the bottle, pours mahogany with a small white head. Good lacing on the glass. Aroma and flavor of caramel and malts, some spice but not too forward, moderately sweet with only some bitterness. Good carbonation. A good easy to drink ale.

Part of a mixed sixer at Albertsons in Vegas. Pours a clean copper colour with a big off-white head, great retention and loads of lacing. Beautiful nose with lots going on. Spicy aromas with chocolate malts and hints of bubblegum. With time, hops come out. Smooth, slightly sticky mouthfeel. Flavours are of roasted malts, caramel, grassy hops and again, feels like bubblegum. Quite an interesting brew that does well for christmas.
