Large chunky head. Strong aroma of caramel, toffee, and plums with some alcohol underneath.Tastes quite a bit different though. Starts out with some vanilla/toffee and finishes hot, somewhat acidic, and spicey/peppery. A hoppy aftertaste. Not at all what i expected. Not bad, just nothing like it smells like, lol. i think this is maybe too young and would do well cellared for 6+ months? | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Bottle. 2008 batch. Pours a clear, deep walnut color with a one-inch light tan head. The inviting aroma is of caramel and nutmeg/cinnamon. Flavor is malty upfront, but the hops keeps it from being too sweet. Nice caramel tones and good spice flavor give this brew character. There is a bit of bitterness in the flavor that lingers--but in a good way. Soft mouthfeel. I’d like to pair this brew with a good beef stew and sourdough bread on a cold night.
