Bottle: Cloudy amber color with a thin layer of ecru foam that forms on top & dissipates quickly. Aroma of caramel, pineapple, mildly vinous tannins, red grape... Very heavy on the dark fruity; prune, raisins, dates. Undertones of sweet caramel & toffee with a strong, almost wine-like presence. Flavor is the same, with more notes of caramel, anise, prune, red grape, tannic oak, & a heavy red wine character. Like a Merlot, though more sweet with the strong malty underbody of caramel, vanilla, & toffee. Light notes of pineapple, too, bordering on Brett-y in a strange way. Though, not a bad way. Mouth feel is slightly over carbonated given the style, in my opinion. All in all, a good barley wine. Not great, but good.

Bottle from a trade, thanks Felix! Pours murky amber with a minimal head, no retention. Aroma has loads of sweetness, caramel/fudge and sugary goodness, dried figs/raisins and some piney hops. Taste is sweet with a very well with very well integrated hop bitterness. A small note of the barrel ageing, slightly woody and tart but it’s quite faint. Full body, low soft carbonation, smooth mouth feel. After taste is bitter with a slight warming feeling.
This is a great, no fuss, barley wine in the English style. Hands down one of the better I’ve had.

Remarkably complex and powerful caramel liquor with earthy and resinous hopping and hints of Sauternes wine. WOW

10oz glass on tap. Orange/amber in color. No head. Aroma is dark fruit, alcohol, malt. Taste is semi sweet, a little bitter. Palate is full, slick texture, long finish.

Mirror Mirror manages to somehow offer the quality I expect from Deschutes while defying my expectations for a barleywine. So I guess I’m saying that it meets my expectations while simultaneously crushing them. Huh? I don’t know, just go with it. Mirror Mirror pours a gorgeous dark brown with a respectable head. Aroma is phenomenal. You get a huge hit of dark fruit and alcohol sugars. It smells like a Quad, only better. Taste is excellent with toffee, nuts, molasses, brown sugar, and fruitiness. The biggest pleasant surprise are the hops. This barleywine manages to be resinous without spoiling its own richness. The hops add a piney, woodsy taste and a hint of citrus, as well. It’s a brilliant match for the candy-like malt. Warm, complex, and full-bodied, Mirror Mirror is unlike any barleywine I’ve ever tried. It really is a lovely example of how diverse and refined an English-style barleywine can be.

Bottle. A- Dark fruits, caramel, slightly hoppy, bread. A- Brown mahogany color, cloudy liquid, off white head. T- Caramel, dark fruits, bread, pine, slightly bitter. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- Seems like every barleywine I have has a unique taste of it’s own and no two are remotely similar. This one was beautiful from the state. The aroma was strong with caramel and dark fruits and so was the taste. Caramel seemed to be at the forefront but as it warmed, notes of pine, floral, and bitterness just came through from the Pale Ale of it. Overall, a very nice beer and I drank it about a month before the best after date on the bottle. Another few months of aging may have made it even better.

Sucre d’orge, tire d’érable, évanescence herbacée et une rondeur narcotique. Très collant et sucré mais sans jamais dépasser la limite.
