Excellent after dinner barley wine served on tap at Taphouse Grill in Seattle. Definitely a sipping beer that was my desert for the night.

10oz glass on tap. Orange/amber in color. No head. Aroma is dark fruit, alcohol, malt. Taste is semi sweet, a little bitter. Palate is full, slick texture, long finish.

Mirror Mirror manages to somehow offer the quality I expect from Deschutes while defying my expectations for a barleywine. So I guess I’m saying that it meets my expectations while simultaneously crushing them. Huh? I don’t know, just go with it. Mirror Mirror pours a gorgeous dark brown with a respectable head. Aroma is phenomenal. You get a huge hit of dark fruit and alcohol sugars. It smells like a Quad, only better. Taste is excellent with toffee, nuts, molasses, brown sugar, and fruitiness. The biggest pleasant surprise are the hops. This barleywine manages to be resinous without spoiling its own richness. The hops add a piney, woodsy taste and a hint of citrus, as well. It’s a brilliant match for the candy-like malt. Warm, complex, and full-bodied, Mirror Mirror is unlike any barleywine I’ve ever tried. It really is a lovely example of how diverse and refined an English-style barleywine can be.

Bottle. A- Dark fruits, caramel, slightly hoppy, bread. A- Brown mahogany color, cloudy liquid, off white head. T- Caramel, dark fruits, bread, pine, slightly bitter. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- Seems like every barleywine I have has a unique taste of it’s own and no two are remotely similar. This one was beautiful from the state. The aroma was strong with caramel and dark fruits and so was the taste. Caramel seemed to be at the forefront but as it warmed, notes of pine, floral, and bitterness just came through from the Pale Ale of it. Overall, a very nice beer and I drank it about a month before the best after date on the bottle. Another few months of aging may have made it even better.

Sucre d’orge, tire d’érable, évanescence herbacée et une rondeur narcotique. Très collant et sucré mais sans jamais dépasser la limite.

22 oz bottle. The pour is a a beautiful garnet tinted brown with a beautiful creamy tan head and some excellent lace. The aroma is heavy in bready malts and a ton of dark fruits! It's astounding how fruity and great this smells. There is a little wine on the back end, but it's really well hidden. The flavor is incredible. There is a little more wine here, mainly coming through on the far back. The malts and fruit dominate as they do in the aroma. It's really solid. The mouth feel is thinner than I would like. It's creamy, but light. There is minimal hanging around. The aftertaste is good and malty with a nice caramel and dark fruit lingering through the finish. Really solid ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2014 bottle. cloudy red/garnet with a small stable beige head. big sweet caramel aroma. big thick and sweet. lots of caramel. some tart red fruit notes and faint barrel. warming finish. i get no "intriguing nuances", just caramel caramel caramel. the oak doesn’t really do anything for it. a bit jumbled and messy IMO.

’14 Bottle. Brown pour with an off white head. Dark fruit and sweet caramel malt aromas. Lots of dark fruits, caramel malts, vinous, and oak notes. Vanilla lowlights. Good body and mouthfeel.

Poured from bomber into goblet. Nice dark caramel color. The taste on this was subtler than I expected. In some ways it's just a big, well executed barleywine without much to really make it unique. The wine barrels don't really come into play overtly, though they do give it just a little more complexity. I like this, but nothing about it really stands out to me. Well done, though.

Bottle. Dark ruby with a thin off white head. Aroma is tropical fruit, caramel and oak. Taste follows and is very sweet with a burnt caramel sort of thing going on. Rich, thick sticky mouthfeel. Nice.
