Totally superb. Barrel characteristics stand out a little more to me in the aroma than in the taste. Slightly thin mouth feel for such a big beer, but otherwise amazing. Deschutes knocked this one out of the park.

Shared bomber to Duvel glasses. Huge long lasting creamy tan head. Aroma of dark fruitiness and a little alcohol. Sticky sweetness that you can’t seem to lick from your gums no matter how hard you try. Velvety smooth. Brown sugar.

Bottle (22oz $14) golden brown. Kind of cloudy. Off white head. Somewhat sweet. More wine like than expected. Overall pretty nice.

Really good. The aroma is sweet burnt sugar with some old oaken basement notes. The taste is lots of raisins, burnt caramel and a bit of lathery sweetness. Finish is a bit of a burn that is almost smooth--my only wish is that it was a little smoother. Perhaps with age youngling.

Bottle. Brown pour with some ruby hues and a light khaki head. Aromas of dark fruits, oak, and wine barrel. Flavor is sweet malt and dark fruits upfront with nice wine and oak notes shining through. Slight booziness in the finish but with some age this should be wonderful. As is still very nice.

Bottle. Pours brown with deep red hues and light tan head. Aroma is breast, lots of caramel, sweet, figgy. Taste is intense, sweet finish, touch of hop bitterness upfront, very malt driven, lots of caramel throughout, lots of fig and raisin. Medium to full bodied, velvety. Overall, very good.

Dark orange red. 1 finger sticky with legs. Nose is bitter orange, sugar and herbal spice. Taste has a lot of anise and licorice. Very herbal almost too much going on. Finish is sweet red vines.

Bottle from 2009. Pours dark brown with a thin khaki head, good retention, very fine lacing. Full malty aroma with toast, oak, toffee, fig, and molasses, along with a distant note of grass. Full body, rich and creamy. Big sweetness but not cloying, a bit tart, mild bitter lingering finish. Alcohol is fairly strong, but smooth. Aged very well.

2005 bottle shared by Carl -- thanks! Mahogany pour, clear with ruby highlights. Rocky head that becomes a ring of bubbles, a few of which cling to the glass. Aroma: old barleywine; dried fruit; toffee; apples; dates; molasses. Taste: aroma + tobacco, caramel, and the tiniest touch of soy; moderately sweet with lasting toffee and fig finish. Pleasant alcohol warmth. Palate: full body, slick oily texture, nice carbonation. Overall: this has held up well. Its age shows, but there’s nothing wrong with that here -- quite nice.
