651mL 2009 ed black wax poured into snifter. The color is a clear, later hazy, reddish orange with a small, but dense yellow head. Not too much retention but leaves a small protective layer. Very little lace. Aroma at first cries infection- maybe Brett or something similar but not quite as nice. Spicy wood, phenols, spicy sourness lead me to believe there is something wrong here. As it warms up, the infection notes are replaced by spicy alcohol, toffee, caramel, chocolate covered strawberries. Fresh air, dew, melons blend with spicy alcohol and heavy phenols. Big Nestle Quik cocoa powder and malted milk balls (Whoppers) show through as well. Itís interesting but Iím not sure if I like the odd combo. Taste up front is pretty much confirming my infection hypothesis: very light bodied, dry, spritzy with hot alcohol still very present. Something like Brett but not quite has attenuated this down to near zero and leaves no body. Palate is very chalky and powdery. Hard to drink this without getting a headache from all the phenols and not so nice infection character.

Bottle shared at Natifest í14. Poured a dark copper color with a moderate frothy tan head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy complex roasted malt, earthy dark fruit aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy dark fruit sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet and small alcohol burn finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.

On draft. Muddy brown with a tiny bit of off white head around the rim. Malty smells, bready, caramel, brown sugar, savory, barrel. Sweet caramel, raisin bread tastes, vanilla, plum, cinnamon, a little alcohol burn. Good rich sweet flavors with some barrel character. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

8/02/2014: Deschutes Mirror Mirror (2014 Reserve)... Attractive shiny copper color with a beige crown (not that anybody really cares). Sugary and malty; sweet, but not cloying; and bit candy-ish with just enough bite in the finish to keep it from being overly sweet. Honestly, this beer need 1-3 years of aging; some oxidation would do wonders for this beer.

The date on the bottle reads "Best after 02/24/15." However, I have another bottle so Iíll be sure to note the changes in this sometime after that date. This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a decent looking dark amber to brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than thirty seconds. A nice thin lacing sticks finely to the glass. The smell starts off with a nice caramel malt to it and eventually allows a nice blended tobacco (English Barleywine, maybe?) to cocoa to vanilla to light citrus all combining themselves fairly nicely. The taste was sticky sweet through all of the previously mentioned flavors smacking themselves together in a sticky sort of mess, but a mess in a good way. On the palate, this one sat right at a medium with a fairly good sipping quality about it. I almost wanted to straight up just drink this, but honestly for the most part, this one is a sipper. Though the carbonation comes across fairly subdued, thereís a good deal of nice creamy smoothness all over. Overall, this was a really nice Barleywine probably closer to the English style. I would definitely love to have this again and canít wait to open up my other bottle.

Poured from bomber with josh. I canít recall a better barleywine. Excellent mouthfeel. Great flavor without overwhelming or syrupy-ness. Initially, a sweetness with heavy malts, slight bitter finish. Excellent red (with direct light) & brown color, sticky offwhite head that reduces but doesnít disappear. 9.91 bd. 9.95 joshk

660 Ml bottle Thanks to Owen for the bottle 2013 vintage Redish orange color, off white head. Good head and lacing Nose is wine, caramel, figs, brown sugar, oak, and touches of sourness. Not infected but has a red wine sourness to it. Very well balanced taste. Just notes of sourness from the barrel, caramel, figs, sugar, dark fruits. Well hidden alcohol and easy to drink. Top stuff
