COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is base camp, where any craft brew exploration begins. A distinct hop nose and hop-forward flavor make Mirror Pond the quintessential Pale Ale. It is aromatically complex, multi-layered, and unmistakably “right.”

Hmm, pale ale? When it’s so dark, syrupy and malty? Not enough hops for the style, I think; but that’s not to say it’s a bad beer. But, maybe a bit more fuggles, a bit less malt to make it a pale ale. Or more malt, more body and call it a bitter. It’s neither here nor there, really.

"i’ve found that when Mirror Pond is on sale...it’s because it’s old, which greatly diminishes the flavor. Better than many give it credit for fresh. Hoppier than many pales. Good, but not among the best. Make sure you’re not getting 6 month old leftovers, and you’ll get a good beer. Better yet, get it on tap! 10/11-fresh hop mirror pond in 22’s...really nice aroma, soft feel, and flavor. i’d rate at least a 4 as a separate beer. just goes to show me how good MP can be when fresh. MP 12’s average around 3.5, on tap a high 3 to a 4, fresh hop bomber (very nice) 4+."

The key descriptive word here is balance. The taste is grapefruit like, hoppy and light. What makes it really enjoyable and refreshing is that the bitterness is moderated so the flavor comes through. Someone there is paying attention!

Aroma: very light flowers, intense grain and cereal malts. Appearance: hazy amber, small, creamy, white head. Taste: light bitter. Palate: bitters continue, some floral hops, grass, sweet grain malts coming up, remains bitter throughout, some dryness in the finish. Overall: nice APA, yet struggles to stand out. Pint at Pizza Port, Carlsbad.

There’s a nice appealing fresh fruitiness to the nose, a floral hoppiness, and a nice mellow maltiness that hints towards caramel. This is pretty light on the palate for an ale, with a slight spritzy carbonation that combine to make this fairly easy drinking and refreshing. The hop takes charge of the flavor, offering a soft melon and lemon citrus freshness throughout. There’s some pale maltiness supporting the lighter hop, although not as distinct as I would have guessed from the aroma, offering very light suggestions towards caramel as well as some smooth mellow comfort in the middle.

Tap. Pours a nice full head that very quickly recedes. Colour is clear orange: fine. On the nose not very much at all: caramel and malt. The taste is clean and pleasant, not very distinctive but enjoyable enough. In the mouth it’s full but with a rather weird caramel finish. Overall: pleasant, not sorry I am trying it, but probably a once-only beer.

Pours Amber with a nice foamy off white head that leaves nice lacing in the glass. Aroma is malt but there’s not much aroma at all. Mild carbonation in the mouth with a taste of malt, barley and a bit of hops. There’s not a lot to this beer. Seems substandard as a pale ale but still a good effort.

Clear Amber with no yeast at bottom as label suggests. Run-of-mill Pale Ale surpassed my many MI brews.

Purchased this beer from my local super market; this is one of my "go tos". An excellent summer-time, or anytime session beer.

Bottle from Beer Cartel (March 2014). Cloudy orange/amber, tight white head, citrus/grapefruit, rich caramel malt, piney bitterness, medium body, slick texture, smooth, sweet finish. Nice.

Bottle into tulip, probably a bit older than it ought to be. Cloudy dark, golden brown. Minimal white head. Grapefruit, some floral notes, slightly resinous. Some honey. Lightly bitter, some sweetness in the depth. Longish finish, slightly chewy, quite a bit of acidity. Good.
