Commercial Description:
Smooth and black, like the volcanic rock, Obsidian Stout is a solid, satisfying beer with a rich roasted-malt flavor. Obsidian Stout gets is inspiration from one of the world's largest obsidian flows at Newberry Volcano--just a few miles south of the brewery. "The Big Obsidian Flow," as they call it, covers more than 700 acres with shiny black obsidian.

12 oz bottle from unclejedi - thanks! Best by 06/27/07. OK, so I’m a tad late. Anyway, black with a brown head. Excellent brown lace. Rather roasty, nutty nose, chocolate and a bit of floral character. Flavors are very much chocolate and coffee, a bit more floral hop than the nose foretold. Body is on the full side of medium, pretty smooth. Finish starts oddly sweet, then moves to a herbal bitterness, a bit of burnt coffee. Nice stuff.

12oz bottle. Poured an opaque black color. Head was thick, brown, and reduced over a minute or two to a lasting film. Aroma was of malted milk balls with a hint of caramel. Slightly sweet with a bit of roasty bitterness at the end. Tasted of milk chocolate, caramel, and subdued cashew. Pretty solid.

Thick pour with long lasting white head. Milky lactic acid aroma with some bourbon whiskey and malt. Flavor is nothing but roasted, almost burnt malt. Completely dry and bitter. Good stout.

Acquired via trade with cbkschubert. Thanks! A very nice stout. Aroma was huge coffee and chocolate with a grainy note. Pour was near black with a one finger tan head. Taste was great. Roasted malt, coffee and a bitter mouth drying aftertaste. Excellent carbonation carried the flavors nicely. As it warms, this tastes almost like cold carbonated coffee. Very nice.

Bottled. Slight coffee aroma, pours jet black, with a persistant light brown head. Tastes of strong coffee and dark chocolate, with some bitterness. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. Goes down pretty smooth. What a great name for a stout. Gives me that warm fuzzy feeling.

Bottle. Pours black with thick light brown head. Nice hop aroma. Nice coffee, barley, chocolate flavor. Not oppressive body. A very solid stout.

12 oz bottle from a trade with SuzyGreenberg. pours black with a nice tan hea that lasts and lasts. leaves nice lacings on the glass. aromas are roasted malts with roasted barley, coffee and chocolate coming through. sweet flavour profile with a slightly bitter finnish. borders on being a foreign stout with all the sweetness but a very good stout none the less. id gladly have it at anytime and id trade for it again.

12 oz bottle. Finally rating this beer. This is a regular vistor to my house. Pours black with a thin creamy head. After the first sip you can taste the roasty malt, chocolate and espresso. Full bodied and the mouthfeel is sticky. The lack of aroma is the only reason this did not recieve a rating of 4+.
