Commercial Description:
Smooth and black, like the volcanic rock, Obsidian Stout is a solid, satisfying beer with a rich roasted-malt flavor. Obsidian Stout gets is inspiration from one of the world's largest obsidian flows at Newberry Volcano--just a few miles south of the brewery. "The Big Obsidian Flow," as they call it, covers more than 700 acres with shiny black obsidian.

Bottle. Can also get on tap around town. Pours black with a mocha colored head that seems to last for a while leaving a rather nice lacing to the glass. Aroma isn’t this beers strongest suite...very subtle notes of toffee and roasted malt. Flavor however is another story...nice full bodied stout with a somewhat sticky mouth feel. Complex flavor profile with definite chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. Very good Stout.

Props to thooper41 for sending this one my way! Pours black with a small frothy head. Aroma is licorice and toffee. Texture is very creamy, and the flavor combines coffee, toffee, and licorice. Very much a "lite" version of Dark Horse Reserve Black Bier, just a tad weaker and watery. Still a solid brew.

Poured black with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee. Some chocolate mixed with coffee. Lots of fruit that almost overpowers the coffee. Different.

Wow, nothing this brewery creates can go wrong. This beer was a dark black with a sticky and long-lasting brown film of bubbles on the surface. Aroma was slightly sweet with loads of roasted malt. Some hints of chocolate and coffee. Flavors were really powerful and intense, with a satisfying amount of rich roasted malt with even more coffee and chocolate, and a nice balance of sweetness and bitterness. Perfectly well-balanced. Full bodied and slightly sticky-but-slick mouthfeel. I love the fact that this beer exists AND IS SOLD IN SIX PACKS. Awesome stuff, I need to stock up.

Pours a deep dark black with a three finger frothy tan head. Held beautifully for 20 min. Aroma of coffee, toffee and toasted nuts. Flavor is roasted coffee with a nice dry bitter aftertaste. Chocolaty and burnt toast. I really like this stout. Flavor lasts and lasts in the mouth.

(Bottle (best by 12/28/07) via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=3 target=blank>TheCheeseMan, thanks Daniel!) Pours very dark brown with four fingers of big mocha head that recedes to about 1/8" and stays. Aroma of molasses, dark chocolate and coffee. Big meaty mouthfeel. Smooth and a little oily. Lots of broken lacing. Flavor is big rich coffee and dark chocolate. Plenty of roastiness. A bit of roasty molasses emerges as it warms. Medium amount of bitterness overlays and gives a little hit through finish. A straightforward heavy-duty excellent-tasting stout with a great palate as well.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of kenb. Pours black with a medium creamy tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, sweet caramel and chocolate, and slight coffee. The flavor is much of the same: roasted/caramel malts, chocolate, a bitterness not in the aroma, sweet as well. Medium bodied. Solid brew.

Bottle. Pours a nice dark brown with a tan creamy head and good lacing. The aroma is that of chocolate, roast grain, malt, and coffee. The taste is very nice, dry, mocha, roasted malt flavor. Not Guinness but an excellent stout none the less.
