Commercial Description:
Smooth and black, like the volcanic rock, Obsidian Stout is a solid, satisfying beer with a rich roasted-malt flavor. Obsidian Stout gets is inspiration from one of the world's largest obsidian flows at Newberry Volcano--just a few miles south of the brewery. "The Big Obsidian Flow," as they call it, covers more than 700 acres with shiny black obsidian.

Very nice stout. Fairly tight nose, but nice balanced between the malt and hop flavors. A bit of molasses and a hint of baking cocoa.

On nitro. Black with a 1 inch velvet head. Aroma of sweet roasted malt and a touch of hop bitterness. Flavors of roasted malts and chocolate malt with secondary notes of maple and brown sugar. Creamy and smooth. A very nice stout.

Bottled. Poured deep brown with a lovely cap of delightfully dark brown head. The aroma picked up sweeter chocolates and milky notes on top of darker roasted chocolates and coffee.. very well-balanced between the sweeter notes and the roasty darker ones. The flavor had sticky roasted coffee and dark chocolates at the core with mild earthy and coffee bitterness surrounding.. sweet chocolate and sour lactic notes laced throughout with grace.. caramel and molasses joined the coffee on the finish.. tasty! Medium-bodied, and it gets to be a bit tacky at times on the palate.. nice roast and a sticky finish. Overall a very good beer!

Bottle thanks to BuckeyeBoy. Tastes like a big roasty chocolate covered cherry. Chocolate and cherry are really what this is all about. A bit sweet up front, but well balanced. Not really bitter or hoppy at all. Slight hints of licorice and molasses. Wonderfully smooth and slick palate. Kinda a poor man’s Kalamazoo Stout, which is FAR from an insult. Very well done beer.

Bottles from many over time. Black, with no head, oily. Plenty of chocolate up front fades to coffee. Flavor much the same. Coffee takes over through the middle and dominates from there out. Body thins out at times. Just not my thing.

Chocolatey and smooth. It’s like a Black Butte but with a bit more alcohol to it, and chewy feel in the mouth. A very nice stout.

Pours an opaque black with a giant chocolate milk head that stays awhile and laces all over. This looks like a big bad stout. Smells of roated barley, caramel, expresso, fruits and some chocolate notes. Tastes silky smooth starting out with some sweet malt with a bitter bite and finishes with cocoa, roasted coffee, nuts and some hops. Feels creamy and smooth in the mouth with little carbonation feel. Alcohol is not detected at all in this. This is an awesome stout that is perfect for sessioning and a must try Oregon delight.

Black as night with burnt brown head. Flavour raisiny yet dry. Supersmooth.
