Commercial Description:
Smooth and black, like the volcanic rock, Obsidian Stout is a solid, satisfying beer with a rich roasted-malt flavor. Obsidian Stout gets is inspiration from one of the world's largest obsidian flows at Newberry Volcano--just a few miles south of the brewery. "The Big Obsidian Flow," as they call it, covers more than 700 acres with shiny black obsidian.

Nitro pour in San Francisco - Black color with a medium but persistent head. Aroma is a nice chocolate/roasty mix that gives the impression of dry and sweet together. Flavor is very roasty, dry/sweet, chocolatey - lots of good stuff going on here, but the nitro detracted from the flavor in my opinion. solid stout that I will have to re-rate with a bottle.

12-oz. Wow, didn’t realize until last night that I hadn’t rated this, and I had also forgotten just how good this one really is. Black with a thick, rocky burnt tan head of great depth and swiss-cheese-hole-having-ness. Settles quickly to awesome webby lace and a nice splatch of film across the top. Big peppery, herb-like hop nose. Delicious. No other beer smells quite like this. Thinking this must be a very fresh bottle. Medium, tingly-carbed body. Roasty, charry, peppery, spicy mid-palate. Dang, this is really, really good. Lingering pepper and pine finish.

Bottle. Pours a thick, pitch black body with a medium-sized creamy tan-brown head. The aroma consists of quality bittersweet chocolate, some tobacco, toffee, and cookie dough. This stuff is insanely silky and quite flavourful. Flavour has bitter roast, cocoa, and a fair amount of hop chewiness. Finishes with some light ashy oat and resin notes.
The parents picked this up sometime in the summer of 2007.

bottle. I tried this beer in the middle of summer on a hot San Diego day so, my rating might be a bit skewed. Black in color like motor oil. A thin tan head with nice lacing was left on the glass. Nose off freash coffee, cocoa, molasses, and dark fruits. Thick and chewy. I’ll have to give this beer another go around one day soon.

One of the first Oregon beers I had the honor of tasting. Poured a deep yet clean black-brown body with a medium tan-grey head. Notes of coffee and chewy roasty malts. Warm molasses finish with caramel and dry coffee flavor. A Pacific Northwest classic!

12oz bottle: pitch black with a brown head, aroma of rosted malt flavor of mostly roasted malt. the flavor lacks a little for a stout and not a whole lot depth for taste, goes down smooth and easy to drink

Pours a nice dark with quickly diminishing head. Reminds me immediately of Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout, only a little more watery. Coffee and chocolate are there. A pretty good brew.
