fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Dec 1, 2007 Bottle at Stockholm Beer Festival 2007 Black color; thin creamy head. Coffeish aroma. Silky mouthfeel, good body, good flavors (caramel, roasted malt, chocolate malt, sweet liquorice); quite sweet. Good. ryan (1774), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Nov 30, 2007 Bottles from Dirty Martini and BlackForestCO. Black body with a medium-sized, tan head that fades to a cover. The aroma is lightly sweet with a good dose of molasses and cola, some chocolate and roast in there as well. The flavor is just lightly sweet with dark chocolate, roasted malt, light coffee and a touch of dark fruits. Medium body is moderately carbonated and is a bit thin, especially in the finish. Finish is dry with a lingering presence of baker’s chocolate. Nice. Bier brauen (210), Bremerton, Washington, USA Nov 22, 2007 Pours very dark black. Med. thin head with dark mocha foam. Slight Dark Malt aroma. Smokey taste, hops in the back. Tongue tingler! MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Nov 22, 2007 Deep brown pour with a medium head. Medium to heavy body. runaway (24), Seattle, Washington, USA Nov 11, 2007 Pours dark brown with a thick dark caramel head. Aroma is rich and sweet. Flavor is sweet malty with chocolate, coffee, molasses notes. Good body, smooth finish. blueturk (68), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Nov 5, 2007 A good stout with big body and matching hops. Robust flavor. A nice Deschutes product. Acknud (770), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Nov 5, 2007 Black as night with a moderate tan head. Very roasty flavor that leaves a bitter aftertaste. Very drinkable. BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Oct 25, 2007 This was very approachable, yet not boring stout. I really enjoyed its moderate roastiness, and thought it very drinkable.
It pours a slightly viscous black, with a fluffy tan (nude pantyhose colored) head formation of tiny bubbles. Aroma was light roastiness. Flavor was more roastiness with some good "burned pizza crust" character and some chocolate and coffee flavor notes. Slightly creamy, but definitely not an extremely thick stout. Highly drinkable.
I had a roommate from OR who said that Deschutes was available in most gas stations & c-stores there...how wonderful that would be! Far from the biggest and baddest in this style, but very nice. Highly recommended.
I bought this at Liquor Mart in Boulder, CO during a visit to attend the GABF.
