Commercial Description:
Smooth and black, like the volcanic rock, Obsidian Stout is a solid, satisfying beer with a rich roasted-malt flavor. Obsidian Stout gets is inspiration from one of the world's largest obsidian flows at Newberry Volcano--just a few miles south of the brewery. "The Big Obsidian Flow," as they call it, covers more than 700 acres with shiny black obsidian.

Bottle from Iowaherkeye, thanks! Nice roast chocolate scent. Black with a tan head. Medium palate at best. Plenty of roasted malt, bitter chocolate and a tangy sort of finish. Not as good as I had expected.

Bottle : Pours black and opaque with a thick brown creamy head. Tons or roasty coffee aroma and charcoal. Favor is rich with roasted barley. nice malt backbone but the burnt woody and dry coffee take over. Finishes semi dry and clean. Very nice house stout.

Dark ruby-brown with abundant, lasting light brown head. Aroma is roasty, malty, alcoholic, licorice. Full-bodied, foamy mouthfeel, roasty/hoppy flavor. Tasty, well-balanced, easy-to-drink. A finely-crafted stout.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours completely black and opaque with a dense, creamy, light brown head leaving laces. Very burned aroma. Medium body with a very smooth mouthfeel, distinct flavours of burned malt and a high degree of sweetness - this really comes close to a Sweet Stout. Burned, bitter finish. 290307

bottle split with Muenster. The pour is pretty black here with a lasting dark tan head. The aroma is spiritous with just a touch of hops. Notes of coffee, bourbon, and even some fruits, maybe apples, are present. The mouthfeel is just slightly viscous. Flavors of espresso are apparent along with that harsh, ashy, burnt oat taste I’m so fond of in stouts. It’s not a very sweet beer, but there is a substantial amount of fruity character like banana or apple. Finish is a bit ashy. Well done.

Bottle split with NachlamSie. Pours black, with a nice tan head, and some mysterious sediment at the bottom. Aroma is strong roast, with coffee beans, dark, musty fruit, and some mild hops. Flavor is nice roasty malt goodness with some bourbon and strong oaky notes. Nice stout.

Medium statured tan head, good retention and a lovely stringy, coating lace that hangs. Black, opaque brew. Nose is grainy, roasty and fruity with light coffee notes too boot not to mention some tarry notes. Body is med/full, oily with a tangy touch. Nice roast flavors, coffee, citrus notes creeping threw, a hint of black patent and dark fruits. Finish is fairly dry and roasty. Another enjoyable Stout! Props to kenb for this one in a trade awhile ago.
