Commercial Description:
Smooth and black, like the volcanic rock, Obsidian Stout is a solid, satisfying beer with a rich roasted-malt flavor. Obsidian Stout gets is inspiration from one of the world's largest obsidian flows at Newberry Volcano--just a few miles south of the brewery. "The Big Obsidian Flow," as they call it, covers more than 700 acres with shiny black obsidian.

Another jet black pour for the evening with a smoky chocolate aroma. Similar chocolate body.

Pitch black with a light brown, huge and creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The mouthfeel is quite full. The flavour is surprisingly mild, but it has a nice body with notes of chocolate, cocoa, licorice and coffee. The balance and bitterness is nice, and it is a nice stout for beginners too. Thank you Tom/After4ever for this nice beer, that I had on my wishlist! 1911

Black, creamy tan head. Nose held soft notes of dark roast coffee and black chocolate, and lighter wafts of citrus. Flavor was a bit more intense then the nose with notes of lightly smoked coffee, roasty chocolate, a touch of vanilla, and some faint ashy earthy bitterness. Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, dry bittersweet finish. Well made stout. Thanks for sharing Schutzenliesel....

12oz bottle from Jake65 - thanks! Nice inky black stout with a sweet roasty aroma. Very drinkable, not excessive mouthfeel. The dominant presence is chocolate smoothness, but as it warms there’s a touch of bitter roastage. Very fine stout.

12oz bottle, courtesy of Schutzenliesel. Thanks, Tom! Pours a dark black center with a reddish tinge; light tan head. Pleasant cocoa and milk chocolate aroma. Full, chewy cocoa mouthfeel: dark chocolate, roasted malts, plenty of smoke; vanilla and light bitterness. Medium, burnt malt and milk chocolate finish.

Pours brown with a thin tan head and great lacing. Smells of roses, pepper, spices and earthy hops. Tastes of sweet malt, chocolate and raisins.

This has a light coffee aroma. Simple, straightforward malt flavor, only a little roasted taste and very light chocolate-coffee.

Pitch black color with a medium head. A pretty strong roasted malt aroma with a little nuttiness. Big, thick, roasted malt flavor. Nothing crazy, nothing subtle. Just a solidly bitter malt taste with a little chocolate on the end. Nice.
