puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Jul 2, 2006 Fresh beets, peanut butter, burnt wood, more peanut butter. Pours with a huge, delicious brown head. Taste is very nutty, kinda rough, lactose shows up with burnt peanut butter (chunky), slight lemon maybe. A pretty unique tasting stout, IMO, with the strong peanut presence that I’ve never really seen before. A very fine offering, and my first from this brewery. bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA Jun 29, 2006 Bottle. Pours an opaque black brown, with a rocky/lacy brown head. The aroma has all the stuff I look for: coffee, chocolate, roasty malt, and just a bit of vanilla. The body is medium full with light carbonation, and a creamy/oily mouthfeel. The taste starts lighlty sweet with the same elements as found in the nose. The finish is hoppily bitter with some coffee and a bite of burnt toast. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA Jun 26, 2006 Updated: Jul 10, 2006Pours black with a decent tan head. Aroma is thick with coffee and malt. The flavor is very nice, the bitter coffee and chocolate is balanced nicely with the roastiness of the malt. Good hop bitterness as well. A very good stout. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 23, 2006 Pour is blak with a nice dense brown head...smell is roasty with coffee, yeast, and light cocoa...taste is very roasty with nice well rounded coffee flavors throughout...some faint sweetness from what tastes buttery, toward the end, where a nice coffee bitterness cleans it up... kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 23, 2006 12 oz bottle, via Bück Dich. Pours an opaque black body with a little light passing thru on the edges under a small creamy chocolate brown head. Excellent retention and lacing. Aroma is roasty with some chocolate malt, coffee, light hoppiness, and some dry yeastiness. Lots of roast and burnt malt up front grabs you right away. Notes of coffee, light alcohol, and bitter hops. Finish is bitter and lingers forever. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with fizzy carbonation and a slightly oily texture. Overall, a very full flavored and serious Stout. Pretty nice to find a basic Stout in a brewery’s line-up that is so well done. blackmurder (164), sadf, Hawaii, USA Jun 20, 2006 If you like coffee, this is the beer for you. Dark roasted hops and malt in the nose with a burnt coffe flavor. Excellent for those who likes blacker than black stouts. I love this beer. A must have for stout fans. Plums, figs, blackberries, and other dark fruits may sneak up on your tastebuds after a few sips. An excellent beer, I’ll have another please! ratman197 (3139), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jun 18, 2006 Bottle poured a nearly opaque black with a large lasting brown head. Aromas of rostiness, coffee, milk chocolate and a hint of vanilla. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of bitter chocolate, a bit of roastiness and a hint of coffee with a dry bitter finish. JohnnyJ (1283), Carlsbad, California, USA Jun 14, 2006 Pours a brown/black color. A very good stout with flavors of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and toffee. Medium mouthfeel, and a nice bit of hops.
