LadySusan (462), Ste-Therese, Quebec, Canada Apr 13, 2006 A good stout with all the tastes a stout should have. The dark rich color, the coffee and some chocolate taste.Just what you would expect from Deschutes. jake65 (1658), Williston, North Dakota, USA Apr 10, 2006 Pours a blackout black with a nice tan head. Tastes of roastiness, malts, coffee and chocolate tones, and a nice amount of hops present. A great stout. WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 15, 2006 I enjoyed this. Lacked the magical intensity of a Storm King Draft, but geat balance of chocolate and coffee, good sweet malt, and enough hop bitterness. LiebeBier (788), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Mar 15, 2006 Draft - An excellent stout with tons of chocolate and coffee flavors. Bif malty flavor. An excellent stout. MrWalker (927), Stockholm, Sweden Mar 14, 2006 Bottle @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm Full bodied, plenty of dark chocolate, cappucchino and dark malts. Well balanced sweetness with flowery hops in the background. Slightly toasted finish. talon1117 (613), Bellvue, Colorado, USA Mar 7, 2006 Updated: Feb 27, 2007Pours as black as black can be, with a dark tan, pillowy head that you would expect from an imperial. Nose is heavily of roasted coffee, and cedar hops, faint chocolate. Palate is a lively carbonation with an almost chewy, creamy texture and medium-full body. Maybe a little more carbonated than I would like. The roasted coffee is still very prominent (moreso than some coffee I’ve had!), with a dark chocolate flavor showing through. A moderate hop bitterness balances the stout well. Finishes with the bitter sweet chocolate taste and the hop bitterness showing heavily through. This reminds me a lot of a small imperial without the alcohol taste and without the complexity. The only thing I think this beer really lacks is some other malt flavor to back up the chocolate and roasted coffee. Nonetheless, one of the most interesting stouts you will try; and definately at least worth the try. CAmes (32), Snohomish, Washington, USA Mar 7, 2006 This one’s among my 10 favorites. Chewy stout goodness, with coffee and chocolate notes. I have a tough time comparing Obsidian to other stouts. It has the body of some lesser Imperial Stouts, but less bitter and without a pronounced alcohol bite. RooftopRogue (423), Champaign, Illinois, USA Mar 4, 2006 The aroma offered by this beer consists of roasted nuts, chocolate, and coffee. This black beer settles under a decent brown head. This thick beer surrounds the tongue. It introduces itself with the taste of chocolate that soon turns to a coffee taste. The aftertaste is a mild almond taste that lingers well.
