Commercial Description:
Smooth and black, like the volcanic rock, Obsidian Stout is a solid, satisfying beer with a rich roasted-malt flavor. Obsidian Stout gets is inspiration from one of the world's largest obsidian flows at Newberry Volcano--just a few miles south of the brewery. "The Big Obsidian Flow," as they call it, covers more than 700 acres with shiny black obsidian.

Bottle. Bottle conditioned. Pours relatively thick and black. Can’t see through it at all when held up to the light. ~1 in. dark tan head that sticks around a little while and then laces. A little coffee in the nose. Really nice flavor - a good bit of bitterness with a robust malt backbone. Definitely some coffee flavors and some roastiness. Rich, medium bodied mouthfeel. A very drinkable and very enjoyable stout.

Bottle. Aroma of chocolate and nut. Pour was black with a tan head. Flavor was just as advertised in the nose with a nice bitterness to remind you stouts aren’t for sissies!! Palate was medium thickness and smooth. Overall a nice treat from the west.

Deep, dark stout. Little head retention .Chocolate and coffee, acidic bitterness. May need time to mellow.

Dark black in color with low head that disappears quick. low bubbles and some hard lacingA nice a complex mixture of dark chocolate, dark fruits, caramel and nicely roasted coffee. Palate is nicely bittered and full flavored with fantastic texture. The flavors are heavy on the chocolate side, with some really intense roast flavours coming on through. Really nice bitter chocolate aftertaste.Good strong stout from a damn good producer.

For the life of me I can’t wrap around what makes a dry stout different from a regular stout different from a labbelled-sweet-but-not-actually-all-that-sweet-stout. So, you know, this was a really tasty stout. Lots of chocolate and cocoa both combined with a mellow roasted acidity and a tinge of astringent walnuts. Some small amounts of dark fruit, but not enough to detract, and a creamy, full mouthfeel. Excellent!

Used motor oil with a creamy light brown head, leaves nice lacing on the glass. Smells like Jamocha ice cream as Baskin Robbins... Baking cocoa, berries, strong coffee...nice. Sweet, slightly roasty with a cotton candy sweet middle fading to a strong roasted malt finish, dry, mineral salt aftertaste. IMO feels a bit thin for a stout but still quite good. Thank you BuckDich!

Pours midnight brown w/ a medium sized, semi cremy spattered froth. Head retention is average receding to a bubbly ring. It’s a little sticky. Aroma of perfectly malted bitter cocoa. Medium full nectar w/ creamy residual effers. Flavors of bitter chocolate are forward developing into a mild roast component. It’s a very flavorful, smooth, and mellow stout. The finish is bittered perfectly w/ a mild hop factor while the malts seem to linger a bit. Great balance. Highly recommended.

Pours deep, almost black, brown with vigorous carbonation leaving a robust head. Mild burnt aroma. Strong coffee flavor with slight flowerly undertones. Mouthfeel is primarly carbonation, which imparts a slight bitterness.
