amalsugar (41), Tremonton, Utah, USA Oct 28, 2005 Wow, this is a dark beer. The maltiness is very present, with a slight bit of hops for bitterness. I did not get much in hop aromas. Excellent beer on a frigid day. FuntonBunton (61), Tempe, Arizona, USA Oct 21, 2005 Good brewski! Very dark in color, nice and satisfying for sure. Roasty and has the nicest malts ive tasted. Smooth and somewhat sweet, kinda like ur mammy. Dark like Wesley Snipes’ upper lip. Ungstrup (14762), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 13, 2005 [At Stockholm Beer Festival 2005] A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of chocolate, while the flavor is weirdly sweet - slightly perfumated, but also with notes of peach and roasted malt. The roastiness gives it a dry end. oh6gdx (8802), Vasa, Finland Oct 4, 2005 Bottled. Pitch black opaque, brown mediumsized head. Strong roasted malt in aroma with hints of caramel and toffee. The same in flavour. Aftertaste sweet malty with weak soapy hints. Cable (286), SE, Oklahoma, USA Oct 3, 2005 Sampled from bottle. Pours an opaque black with a thin, tan head and nice lace. Aroma is bold and is a equal blend of coffee and chocolate with some earth notes. There is also a hint of sourness in the aroma, but it is far from unpleasant. Flavor is nicely bitter, although it starts sweet for just a second, with toffee, chocolate and some grapefruit/spice hops. Bitterness lingers for a bit too long (so good thing it has a pleasant flavor). Full-bodied, moderately carbonated at best and silky smooth. Wow. TBone (6681), Pori, Finland Oct 3, 2005 Bottled
Opaque black, good creamy cappuchino head. A bit yeasty, hoppy, slightly roasted nose with hints of vegetables. Medium-bodied, sweetish, caramelly, nice flavor. Coffee and roast in the flavor. Aroma is not promising but flavor is excellent. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Sep 29, 2005 Updated: Nov 17, 2007Thanks Wohlfs! Poured thick black with rd highlights. A dry chocolate and expensive coffee aroma. Thick creamy brown head, Tasted like dry bitter dark chocolate. There is an abundance of carbination, maybe if there was a bit less... This was a very good stout, I would call it a dry stout. Did I mention dry?
re-rate 11-17-07 this is a very good brew. As it warms, lots more chcolate comes out, and it is still dry! homebrew (15), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Sep 27, 2005 Black. Toasty malt aroma and flavor with some coffee. This beer has enough hops to balance the malt with a little left over for an aftertaste of hop and nutshell. Nice bitter finish. A very drinkable stout.
