BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA Sep 25, 2005 Big aroma and flavor of coffee. Nice malty sweetness, with tart bakers chocolate in there too. Nice and smooth. (But got a little rougher as it warmed) Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 17, 2005 hocolately mocha powder aroma. Coffee dark. Smooth, although some cookie crumbs and coconut strings mouthfeel in there. Well roasted, bittersweet and neither leaning to coffee nor chocolate. Very nicely carbonated. AmazonMatt (284), Panama Sep 4, 2005 Updated: Mar 26, 2007Pours black with nose of chocolate and coffee. Smokey and coffeish. I’d drink this again. Less sweet than the Deschutes Porter, so I like this one better. Re-rate gives this a two tenths bump up dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Aug 23, 2005 Nice dark color, a smoky aroma and flavor. Its more like a smoked porter almost than a stout, and this prevailing smoky-roastedness is what keeps it from being truly top notch. desurfer (1067), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA Aug 19, 2005 Deep garnet body and a foamy tan head, lots of lacing. Lots of coffee and chocolate in there, but nothing to distinguish it from the myriad other stouts out there. pinkzambia (986), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 16, 2005 On Tap at Deschutes Brewpub: Dark in color with a light brown frothy head (like a latte) that wouldn’t die with sticky lacing. Aroma and taste was chocolaty charcoal and the body was thin. Pretty good. jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Aug 15, 2005 Bottle. Pours an opaque black with a huge, thick picturesque tan head. Very nice, rich roasty mocha aroma. Pretty sweet. Flavor has notes of roasted malt, chocolate and caramel. Roasty finish. Not that complex but tasty. Medium bodied with a very smooth texture and moderate carbonation. Very nice stout. jackbocracken (36), Washington, USA Aug 15, 2005 Taste is similar to their porter, although drier and with a hoppier kick at the end. Mouthfeel is thick and almost oily. More alcoholic warming than their porter as well. Better winter brew, I think.
