Deep, robust and richly rewarding, this is beer to linger over. Obsidian has distinct notes of espresso, chocolate, roasted malt and black barley, with just enough hop bite to cut the sweetness.

Poured into tulip glass with a best by: 7/28/12. Glad I noticed this since it is 7/15/12 Appearance: Big beautiful 2 to 2&1/2 finger size head that is khaki color with tight condensed bubbles. It is a dark black beer with absolutley no light penetration through this beer. The lacing on this is ridiculous as I swirl the glass it really sticks to the side. I was taken by the head that formed on this. Awesome! Smell: Upfront is the espresso and toasted malts along with dark chocolate and nuts. I get some slight molasses and some fairly noticable hops. Taste: Roasted malts big time! Some bitter chocolate and mild coffee present. A noticable bitter hoppy finish for a stout that prevents any overly sweet finish. Mouthfeel: Somewhat thin for a stout and rather carbonated. Not slick or viscous but that is nice on this one because it makes it highly drinkable. Overall: This is a nice change of pace stout for me. Slightly hoppy and roasted goodness through and through. Low abv makes this easy to drink and that is apparent as my glass is nearing empty and only after about 10 minutes.

Pours a nice dark brown, almost Guinness-like though the head doesnít come close. Had a much more pronounced coffee taste than chocolate...not a bad thing. Left a bit more bitter taste than I wanted, Was actually expecting to rate this higher but 3.5 isnít a bad score.

Bours black with a fine tan head. Nose is coffee and milk chocolate, a little caramel. Body is heavy and rich. Chocolate cake, coffee, spiced chai, a little burnt toast. Medium to heavy body, surprising given itís not that heavy a beer. Creamy and viscous mouthfeel. A bigger beer than I expected.

[2/16/15] Draught at Cameronís Inn in Half Moon Bay. Black with a nice brown head. Nice roasty aroma with dark chocolate and coffee. Bittersweetish roasty flavor with coffee and some dark chocolate. Creamy and slightly watery nitro mouthfeel. Good.

Black body, large, creamy off-white head, soapy lacing. Earth, bittersweet chocolate, light roast, a little bit of chalk. Medium bodied, velvety effervescent on Nitro tap, mild bitterness, semi-dry throughout.

Bottle: Clear, dense, red hue, light head and moderate lace. Lifted fruit, spice, malt, anise, clean, fresh and certainly not excessively roasted. Dry, not sour and moderate bitterness. Palate is clean, only medium weight. Good balance and texture. Flavours are complex with coffee, chocolate, fruit and brown spice. Nice beer but lacks the next level of saturation and mouthfeel that iím looking for.

10.7.2014. Black beer, quickly disappearing brown head, looks highly carbonated. Oily appearance. Aroma is sweetish, slightly roasted, malty, some chocolate. Lowish carbonation, slightly oily texture. Similar notes than in aroma, plenty of malts, some chocolate, roasty and liquorice which maybe gives the sweetish touch. Slightly bitter finish. Guess this is somewhere between stout and IS but not quite there. Rather simple still but good.

Dark beer with some reddish hues when held against the light. Frothy beige head. Nose of some sweetened coffee, chocolate and toasted grains. This is a very nice, full flavored stout with lots of bitter chocolate and coffee notes, some dark grains and a bit of sweetness with molasses and burnt caramel. The finish has some ash and a bit of coffee bean bitterness. I forgot how much I enjoyed this beer.

Black pour, big brown head. Roasty, cocoa sweet aroma, flavor is also roasty and strongly of cocoa. Fantastic mouthfeel: creamy, smooth and full. Excellent.
