Commercial Description:
Smooth and black, like the volcanic rock, Obsidian Stout is a solid, satisfying beer with a rich roasted-malt flavor. Obsidian Stout gets is inspiration from one of the world's largest obsidian flows at Newberry Volcano--just a few miles south of the brewery. "The Big Obsidian Flow," as they call it, covers more than 700 acres with shiny black obsidian.

Nice black color, small but foamy tan head that hung around for a decent time leaving a nice lace behind.Roasty aroma with a nice coffee tone to it,and a light hint of smoke as well.Very nice malt and roasty flavor with a decent amount of coffee notes and a faint hint of smoke coming on as well. Some faint hints of fruit show up but there a little hard to tell exactly what kind. The after taste is roasty and coffee with a nice smooth finish. This was much better then i was expecting it to be.Flavorful and and nicely done with a fairly decent balance of flavors.Well worth having a few more for later.

12 oz bottle-thanks again to Mromero548 for bringing this one from colorado. pours 95% black with a slight tan head. HUGE expresso aroma-i talked about this the whole time we sampled it. lots of coffee and roasty flavors going on, but not as big as the aroma. Still, very tasty. The only think holding this one back from being on the top is the somewhat thin body, which to me, didnt detract from the brew. I must get some more of this stuff!

Black, creamy tan head. Nose held soft notes of dark roast coffee and black chocolate, and lighter wafts of citrus. Flavor was a bit more intense then the nose with notes of lightly smoked coffee, roasty chocolate, a touch of vanilla, and some faint ashy earthy bitterness. Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, dry bittersweet finish. Well made stout. Thanks for sharing Schutzenliesel....

12 oz bottle. Very dark. Nice foamy head. Lots of nutty roasty burnt aromas. Very similar flavor. Super nutty... roasted nuts. Some coffee came through on the flavor as well. Some alohol flavor on the finish. Very yummy.

Bottle. Pours black with tan head. The aroma is quite roasty with some caramel and even a hint of smoke. The flavor is also very roasty with an occasional hint of chocolate and a slightly smoky, ashy finish. Tasty.

Pours black with a thin tan head. Great aroma of cherry, banana, melon, prune and some coffee. Taste is coffee, cherry and chocolate. Fairly thin bodied but a delicious, well put together stout. Very nice.

Big hiss is well met with a frothy and deep tan head that’s 3/4" thick. Below it lies an opaque and midnight brown body. Aroma ejects singed marshmallows, ash, lactic dark chocolate, smoldered s’mores, soggy cocoa puffs and mocha cappuccinos. Deciduously dry and bitter flavor. Espresso grinds latch on and punch caffeinated holes in the mouth’s outer realm for the sake of aeration. Dark chocolate, cocoa beans and arid mocha torte line the tongue like the bottom realm of tiramisu, and then it’s tickled by a matchstick. Warming vibes and an acutely dry tongue sweep keep the well-rehearsed number at rising star status. Hard crushed mocha beans with a lick of burnt french torte crust come through in the finish. Thanks for the bottle, tpkenned!

Black body. Aroma is roasted coffee with notes of chocolate, caramel and grapefruity hops. Probably would have been much hoppier and bitter if it wasn’t for the nitro thing... based on my nitro IPA experience. Sorta reminded me of Guinness... which to me is bad. Still, a solid stout. Would be nice to see an imperialized version of it if there isn’t one already.
