Commercial Description:
Smooth and black, like the volcanic rock, Obsidian Stout is a solid, satisfying beer with a rich roasted-malt flavor. Obsidian Stout gets is inspiration from one of the world's largest obsidian flows at Newberry Volcano--just a few miles south of the brewery. "The Big Obsidian Flow," as they call it, covers more than 700 acres with shiny black obsidian.

Pours like it's name, with a dark tan head and good lacing. Roasted malt nose with some fruit. Pleasing roasted coffee flavors, with a very creamy palate.

Decent sized brown head of dense and creamy bubbles. Light coffee, roasted grains, decaying grass and some lactose notes. Color is a essentially black. Sweet and roasty flavor. Medium bodied with more milky notes, dark chocolate and a little bit of herbal hops presence. Dry and pasty mouthfeel. Finishes roasty with a lingering bitterness. A decent stout.

Draft at Taphouse Grill in downtown Seattle. Pours midnight brown with a tan head and good lacing. Aroma of subtle dark roast, milk, and chocolate. Full bodied with a slight creaminess to the texture. Initial flavor of milk chocolate, hazlenut, and dark roasted grains that transitions to coffee and tamed bitterness mid palate. Moderate amount of residual sweetness. Finish is semi-dry and smooth. Very well done. Almost, I say almost, as good as Bells Kzoo Stout.

Bottle from mystery beer swap V2.0. Opaque body with red edges and a half inch reddish brown foamy head. Nose-chocolate malt and toffee. Taste-toffee, malted chocolate, bittersweet, a bitterness I can only describe as burnt orange zest, unroasted coffee beans, slightly lactic. Pretty damn good. BTW, Obsidian is not necessarily volcanic. I’m just saying.

Deeeeeelicious! Black with small tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, as was the flavor. Full and rich bodied. Wish it was readily available around here. Excellent stout.

12oz bottle from Jake65 - thanks! Nice inky black stout with a sweet roasty aroma. Very drinkable, not excessive mouthfeel. The dominant presence is chocolate smoothness, but as it warms there’s a touch of bitter roastage. Very fine stout.

Pours a clear black with a beige head. Sweet with a bit of bitterness. Strong aromas of coffee and roasted malts. Also hints of oats. Medium bodied with a fizzy carbonation. Bitter finish with more coffee.

Bottles from Dirty_Martini and BlackForestCO. Black body with a medium-sized, tan head that fades to a cover. The aroma is lightly sweet with a good dose of molasses and cola, some chocolate and roast in there as well. The flavor is just lightly sweet with dark chocolate, roasted malt, light coffee and a touch of dark fruits. Medium body is moderately carbonated and is a bit thin, especially in the finish. Finish is dry with a lingering presence of baker’s chocolate. Nice.
