Commercial Description:
Smooth and black, like the volcanic rock, Obsidian Stout is a solid, satisfying beer with a rich roasted-malt flavor. Obsidian Stout gets is inspiration from one of the world's largest obsidian flows at Newberry Volcano--just a few miles south of the brewery. "The Big Obsidian Flow," as they call it, covers more than 700 acres with shiny black obsidian.

Bottle. Black body, small chocolate head. Fruity aroma, mild roast notes. Flavour is muted with mild roast that lingers with a strong bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Thin palate. Disappointingly ordinary.

Bottle. A solid stout. Pours a black body with a tan off white head. Aroma is roasty chocolate malt, caramel, and lots of malt. Roasty coffee in the flavor with little etoh or hops. Good beer.

This bottled brew poured a large sized head of thick frothy medium sized mostly lasting brown colored bubbles good thick lacing. The body contained no visible carbonation, was opaque and black in color. Its aroma was unnoted. Its mouth feel is semi-flat smooth and malty. Its flavor contained mild chocolate mild coffee mild roasted malt notes. All-in-all very nice brew.

Bottle at the Crow’s Nest outside Denali Nat’l Park. Pours beautifully with a big cascade that settles into a big rocky top. There’s a big nose of currant and sugar which carries to the flaovrs ... wood and bitterly fruity.

35,5cl bottle. BB 08/08. Trade with ChristianScheffel. Pours black with a thick creamy beige head and lacings. Nose is mild but quite complex. Lots of roasted coffee, some chocolate, a little tar/smoke and a vinous/matured touch. Smooth, stikcy and full body. Bitter roasted coffee and milky chocolate in the end. A nice one.

Pitch black color with a medium head. A pretty strong roasted malt aroma with a little nuttiness. Big, thick, roasted malt flavor. Nothing crazy, nothing subtle. Just a solidly bitter malt taste with a little chocolate on the end. Nice.

Big thanks to Kenb for hooking me up here on one damn fine stout. I actually had never really known or heard much about this beer, which is good, because I just went ahead and rated it without any preconceptions- and I was pleasantly surprised. Pours a very deep dark black with a nice fluffy lasting beige head- that never dies. Aroma is a sharp dry acrid roast character that defines a well made stout- light hints of chocolate and coffee in the background. Light sweetness and toffee in the flavor, with more nutty chocalate and dark malts with a great dry roast finish. Smooth body and aftertaste. Damn- I wish I had more of this.
