Deep, robust and richly rewarding, this is beer to linger over. Obsidian has distinct notes of espresso, chocolate, roasted malt and black barley, with just enough hop bite to cut the sweetness.

I can tell that Oregonians are out of step with the usual beer drinkers by seeing the average rating here--3.81. I think in Oregon it would be closer to 4.8. We love stouts, and this one is loved more than the rest. But to me it’s got too much dark malt and is cloying and syrupy. I’d take a Shakespeare instead, thank you.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Slight cocoa and moderate low roast transitions to a moderate, dry bittersweet finish. Medium thin mouthfeel. Roast picks up as it warms.

12 Oz. Bottle poured into a frosty mug. Pours like 40 weight oil with a nice thick, dark head. Smells of coffee and licorice. Nice sweet flavor that has a nice lingering aftertaste. Found this 6 pack of 12 Oz. bottles and a local market. I’m going back for more.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared by Joes. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized brown head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, lightly roasty, raisins, lightly earthy, lightly ash. Taste malts, lightly roasty, a hint of coffee, pretty bitter, a touch of liquorice. Decent body, decent carbonation. Pretty damn good!
