SQNfan (437), Wheaton, Illinois, USA May 1, 2008 Dark brown in color with medium-sized bubbles that dissipated quickly. The nose was sweet with scents of coffee, chocolate and oats. The palate comes off soft and has a dry bitterness to it. Fairly simple in the mouth.

Not overdone Beer_2000 (1195), Kristiansand, Norway Aug 30, 2008 355 ml bottle. Black body with a beige head. Aroma is sweet malty, slightly roasted with a hint of chocolate and liquorices. Flavor is rich malty, slightly roasted, chocolate and fruity. Very nice indeed. Mes_and_Sim (4360), Highgate, Greater London, England Aug 24, 2008 A Mes rate: bottle at GBBF. Beautiful looking beer. Black as "Obsidian Blackbird McKnight" with a thin but very stable tan head. Gorgeous. Odd meat and pig fat ntoes in the aroma but it is overpowered by some superb syrupy and oily malt plus some excellent chocolate notes. The flavour is full of coffee and chocolate as you would expect. Gloriously roasty, superb bitter bite but not overly hoppy. A lovely thick, chewy mouthfeel. Excellent stuff. This has made me really really want to try the Abyss. durhambeer (412), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 22, 2008 Bottle from liquidsolutions. Man, this was tasty. Near-black pour with tan head. Roasty and very drinkable, with a big hop presence and an overwhelming flavor of roasted barley. Some bitter chocolate notes as well. Possibly the best I’ve had of this style (American hoppy) stout. Really lovely. Biddle_Brau (135), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Aug 21, 2008 Black, black with long lasting brown head. Coffee aroma. Roasty, burnt, dry, toffee flavor. Full bodied.
