Vas19 (211), Maryland, USA Jun 25, 2008 Pours black with a thick brown head. Roasty aroma with a bit of coffee. Flavor is more of the same. There is also a sweetness that provides a nice balance. No blow-me-away flavors, but a good stout none the less.

GREAT STOUT! SMOOTH SMOOTH SMOOTH. Like drinking beer flavored chocolate milk next to a raging fire. NoiZe (875), Zeist, Netherlands Aug 16, 2008 Tasted @ the Deschutes Brewery and Public House in Portland.
Brown/black colored brew. Roasted malty aroma. Flavor is roasted too, sweet chocolate and some fruits. Very nice one. harrisoni (5109), Ashford, Kent, England Aug 15, 2008 Bottle from GBBF 08. Black, dark brown edges, thin tan head. Moderate intense roasted malt. I mean it’s a really good intense stout. Just a touch down from an impy stout, but is shares some characteristics. Lovely rich aroma. So Good. Rich espresso coffee and creamy bitter dark choc. Stunning aroma. Somewhat fullish in mouth, more dark choc, 70% cocoa I’d guess, bit of ashtray. Bit of sweetness and then dryness from the roast and a bit of hop. Decent dryness. A little one dimensional and a little sweet. Great aroma, bit sweet and finish could be better. CharlesDarwin (1376), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 11, 2008 12oz Bottle. Nice fresh roasted aroma, suavely blended with malt fermentation and molasses. Soft and milky. Builds up a good frothy head of coffee and cream over a black base. Dry stout develops interesting complexities. Faint sweetness yields to some red fruits, a bit of alcohol and a fresh rash of nicely dry and minty hops. Soft creamy body helps keep drinkability high. A bit of alcohol is noticeable, but lends to the beer. Signature yeast profile brings back memories of quaffing other Deschutes beer along the Colorado River, near Yuma, Arizona. Good stuff. Thanks Lyle! hughie (2150), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Aug 7, 2008 Bottle at GBBF ’08. Thanks to Mes for this one. Very dark brown with a tough, oily aroma that made me think of workshops and garages. The gentle, sweet chocolate flavour comes as something of a surprise and lifts the mood delightfully.
