Bottle. Deep black pour with a frothy tan head. Strong toffee aroma with a sense of roasted malt and grilled cherries. Milky taste with some coffee and roasted malt notes. Smooth. Not much of a finish, but still a good tasting stout.

Pours nighttime black into random Baltimore pint glass appointing its head a khaki tannish to it, foamy and lacy before sinking only a half-inch into itself. Smells of roasted malts (predominately), heat, charcoal, and noble hops. Tastes the same; finishes dry and musty. Damn nice stout!

Tap. Pours almost opaque black with a small brown creamy head with great staying power and good lacing. Aroma is nice, roasted malts dominating, coffee, a bit of chocolate. Flavor is somewhat sweet, dominated by roasted malts and coffee, with a slightly bitter finish. Creamy, full bodied mouthfeel.

A thick creamy bitterness lingers in the suds that wash over your mouth. Great mouthfeel. Overall beer for a great longhall!

Poured into a stein. Extremely dark with frothy brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Taste had some hop bitterness cutting through the sweet flavors. Full-body with thick, creamy texture and a lingering espresso flavor. Very nice stout.

Burnt and molasses in the nose. Bittersweet chocolate, very dry astringent mouthfeel, bitter roasted malts provide dry and bitter finish.

Originally reviewed: 4/10/09. Pours a perfect dirty motor oil black. Thick and chunky this one is. Great foamy tan head on top. Retention is great leaving with it nice lacing rings. Smells of deep dark chocolate, espresso, grape jam, and wine. Nice. Great thick oily mouth on this one. Drinkability is high. Flavors of roasted cocoa, bitter coffee, finishes slightly acrid and burnt. Decent. I like this brew alot. Great stout. Recommend.

Pours jet black with tan head into pint glass. Smells of fresh roasted coffee, dark chocolate, sweet caramel. Taste is bold, hoppy, roasted malt, big for the ABV. Probably the best regular stout I’ve had.

On nitro tap at the Bend pub. This is the ONLY way to drink this beer....at the pub on nitro. It is the mother of all stouts.We gauge all other stouts against this one. Pitch black with a creamy head.Seems to start out dry but finishes a little sweet as your pint warms and settles. What a great beer this is.

Black pour with large thin tan head. Aroma of malt and chocolate. Taste of roasted malts, chocolate and a tinge of molasses. Nice creamy mouthfeel, low carbonation, and some bitterness in the aftertaste. Very good beer.

Coming out of rating retirement for this one because it so worthy. Aroma is roasty chocolatey goodness, with hints of coffee and burnt sugar. Pours nearly black, with a thick tan head. Flavor is deep, dark roasted malt, coffee, again some burnt sugar, maybe some molasses. Mouth is full bodied, thick and chewey, with a lasting bitterness. Under appreciated, up there with the best stouts.
