This West Coast IPA is like that sweet little Nordic trail off the main trail of Meissner - it takes the high road. Using Pilsner base malt, it is light on malt but not hops. With a hop bill consisting of Amarillo, Centennial, Northern Brewer, and experimental hop X, we packed in the pine along with the citrus notes we love.

Cloudy golden color. Big piny vegetal hop aroma. A little malt in the flavor but the hops are big and bitter. Nice beer but a little on the bitter piny side for me.

Clear in appearance. Gold in color with a thick, bubbley white head that leaves minimal lacing. Aroma consist of a dominant orange zest. Piney with slight banana aromas. Slick texture with low carbonation. Not as hoppy of a taste as i was hoping. Very dry feel. Does leave a slight bitter finish. Overall a drinkable beer.

with a name like this i expect to smell pine but i don’t, resin okay, with some caramel and grassy green. Clear yellow with a green-amber tinge, thin white head. What am i tasting, butter, here’s some pine, syrup without maple, almost camphor deeper in the gullet. A forest-y finish. The palate is confused.

Bottle. Best by 7/24/15 date. A: Light amber with a few dancing lines of bubbles. Huge foamy head. N: Enormous pine, orange, and pineapple. Hint of grapefruit. Earth floor and fall leaves. Cracker base. Hint of lemon. T: Quite bitter, light malt, cleanly delineated. M: Medium body, fizzing carbonation that starts with a noticeable prickle and then dies into a soft nothingness. No alcohol presence. O: A potent IPA whose name is pretty clear about what you’re going to get. Deschutes continues to produce clean, quality beers, and I, for one, am glad for it.

Draft. Aroma if chalky pine resin. Flavors are dusty and dry, hinting at resin but never quite landing on it. There’s a hint of citrus here too. Finishes as quickly as a water cracker.

12 oz bottle from a six pack bought at Super 1 in Rathdrum, ID. Aroma is piney, catty, citrus powder drink. Pours clear old gold with a long-sustaining white head. Taste is piney, citrusy, biscuity, starting sweet before a solid but not extreme bitterness sets in. Good.

Pint poured from a growler filled at Growl Movement in Salem. $12 Clear gold ale with a large and frothy dirty white head. Nice strong citrus, r esiny hop with a hint of hay like malts. Really startling taste..its like a good bohemian pilsner crossed with a citrus hop bomb..cool. Nice medium mouth feel.. Very nice IPL/A..very drinkable.

On tap at the PDX location. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. A big floral fruity hop nose. The flavor is mild bitterness, big late boil hops, fresh oranges. Solid. Smooth. Light pils malt.

On tap at the Portland brewpub - Pours clear gold with a white head. The aroma has pine, grapefruit and caramel with a great balance between everything. It is medium bodied with mild carbonation. The flavor starts very piney / woody with some grapefruit zest and decent amount of mildly toasted malt that offsets the hoppiness. The finish is resiny and bitter. Quite good.
