Commercial Description:
Unconventional. Uncompromising. A Deschutes original. This IPA style beer utilizes hops in a way never attempted by our brewers, evident in both aroma and flavor. The Cascade and Centennial hops are balanced by 2 types of crystal malts as well as American pale malt and German pilsner malt. The wind beneath your wings, perhaps… IBU’s: 63

Sampled on 5/29/2009. This IPA pours a medium red amber color from a 22oz bottle. Large sized white foamy head, with good retention and nice lacing. The aroma is resiny and grapefruity with some malt sweetness. A medium bodied IPA. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are grapefruity and piney. It’s a fairly bitter IPA with a nice malt backbone. There are really sweet fruity malts balanced by some big aggressive hops. Is this a PNW take on an English India Pale Ale? Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Bomber from BevMo. Clear golden-amber appearance with a white head. Very nice aroma of pale malt and piney C-hops. Flavor is piney/citrusy C-hops balanced by semi-sweet pale malt with slight caramel. Crisp and somewhat dry on the palate with medium body.

From a 22 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Nose is full of Pacific NW hops. Citrusy and a little toast. Clear amber with a half inch tan head. Clean bitterness up front with a bitter orange peel flavor from the hops. Malt is clean and not heavy or sweet with a bit of that toasty character coming through. Bitterness lingers on the tongue, although mouthfeel is fairly crisp and dry for the strength. A very nice IPA

Bottle at ACBF09. Pours orange with a small head. Aroma of citrus, hop oils, and grassy hops. Yum! Flavor is similar--hops oils with a citrus finish. The malt backbone is a little weak and the beer is not as balanced as some of the great IPAs. But still, quite an enjoyable beer. 8/4/7/4/15 (3.8/5)

Bottle as shown. Pours a clear copper golden with a medium frothy off white head that leaves behind good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a floral hops with citrus and grapefruit. Thin mouthfeel with a smooth hop taste with caramel and citrus. Easy to drink and hides the alcohol well, a very good IPA from Deschutes.

A pretty standard IPA, good hoppiness, citrus, and floral make it very drinkable. A solid effort, if not entirely inventive.

Bomber from Snojerk321.I think this is a pretty standard IPA, really. Not sure what’s unconventional about it. But anyway, nose of C-hops, floral and citrus, like caramel notes. I still don’t get the obsession with crystal malts in IPAs, but this one isn’t too shabby. Finishes pretty dry, very drinkable. Nice enough.

Draft. Amber beer with a whitish head. Strange aroma that at first had me thinking of earl grey tea, but then turned into something more citrus and pine. Big summer fruit and citrus flavor. OK bitterness. Very drinkable. Summer fruit and caramel lingers with some sweet citrus.
