COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The citrus punch of a big IPA, minus the one-dimensional hop sledgehammer. Seven select European and domestic malts round out the edges for a complex, copper-colored brew. Like its namesake ski lift, it’s an insider’s ride to fresh thrills.

Auburn orange with big head and good lacing. Aroma of bread, caramel and some fruit with a bit of pine. Taste of sweet caramel and bread with a slight, somewhat herbal bitterness and hint of spice. Mouthfeel borders on being creamy with a medium body and carbonation. Has a nice malt forward presence with a piney/herbal character that helps to keep it from being too sweet. Drinkable. ---Jeremy H

Hops: Cascade, Centennial. Malt: Pale, Crystal, Munich, Carapils, Pilsner, Carastan. 60 IBU. Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tumbler on 01.20.14. A: 2 finger head with a slightly aggressive pour. See through red. Nice lacing. S: Pine, caramel. T: Flower, pine, caramel, sweet breadiness. M: Crisp. O: Deschutes seems to strive for balance in their beers rather than going full-on HOOOOPS like other breweries, especially on the West Coast. I do love hops, but it’s nice to have APAs like this one, which is very well balanced. The hops are there, but there is a really great malt presence too. The flowery and piney hops come on first, then the sweet bready malts take over. The flavors wash over and over. This is an excellent beer.

Great pale ale. Strong citrus followed by a pleasant but not overpowering hoppiness. Like it. Very high quality brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle. About time I rate an old classic that I have enjoyed so many times over the last few years. I usually track this down on nitro draft, but I’ll take this bottle when I can get it, and prefer to rate it this way. Really nice citrus hops aroma. Flavor is heavy towards the hops and finishes pretty bitter. The aroma and initial hop flavor does it for me. I can handle the above average (in my opinion) bitterness. Overall a nice beer. Drinkable for an all day occasion. Solid.
