2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle: Cloudy honey-amber color, white head fades quick to a lasting, soapy collar; light patches of lacing left behind. Aroma of toasted, whole grain crackers, moderate herbal hops, weeds, a touch of doughy malt, & a very timid citrus zest presence. Taste is a little thin; some watered down, herbal & lightly earthy hops. A touch of grain, some vague toasted maltiness, a pretty abrupt finish with not much lasting or lingering flavor. Mild citrus zest mid-palate with some warmth. A decent session ale but a little vapid; there are certainly better options available.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz. bottle poured to a festival sampler at a group tasting, showing a fairly clear, ambered gold color. with a decent, froth & bubbles head, and wavy cling to the lacing. The nose started with touches of yeasty stink, & grassy dankness, then uplifted a bit by light lemon & spice. The taste continued similarly, adding some mild wheat, but light body, low carbonation, and thin texture. Maybe handled badly, but just a passably sessionable hydrator.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle to pint glass
I was given a gift pack with "Beers of the World" and this was one of them. Not one of my first choices, but Deschutes usually provides a good experience. Aroma is light grapefruit, hay, cat piss, spruce, malty sweetness and a touch of skunk. Itís a clear, light amber with a creamy off white head that provides a moderate amount of lacing. Taste is very skunky, I may have gotten an off bottle, but it ends in a nice hoppy bitterness. Moving past the skunkiness, I get hay and a touch of apple. If I see this in the stores, Iíll try to pick up a bottle and rerate, but Iím not grabbing a six pack in case this is how itís supposed to be.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass.
Appearance: pours a 2" off white fluffy head which leaves some light lacing behind. Color is a hazy rich gold with abundant streaming carbonation.
Aroma: Pine and citrus hops are quite present with a nice doughy malt behind them.
Mouthfeel: light and fluffy with a somewhat wet finish.
Flavor: lemon peel, some pine and grapefruit, an odd soapy flavor, in the background is some malty backbone of dinner rolls, with a hint of cinnamon and caramel.
Overall: I am hoping this beer will grow on me. I generally enjoy golden and blond ales, but this seems a little strange to me thus far. It is not bad, neither is it great. I was expecting more as I have always been pleased with Deschutes products. The beer just seems to lack a proper balance and is more hop forward while lacking in the sweetness I am accustomed to in this style.
